CBOE XBT (BTC) Futures Overview

CBOE (Chicago Board Options Exchange) launched Bitcoin futures at 6pm Eastern Standard Time on Sunday December 10th.

Rapid BTC price gains resulted in two trading halts. The first trading halt occurred after a 10% climb and the second halt happened after a 20% climb.

The CBOE website crashed during their launch. CBOE stated, “Due to heavy traffic on our website…it is performing slower than usual and may at times be temporarily unavailable.”

20 trading firms took part in day 1 of BTC futures.

1 BTC = 1 Futures Contract trading at around $18,000

The first contract expires January 17, 2018.

The ticker symbol is “XBT”

Prices are based on Gemini Trust Company, LLC (Gemini), which is an exchange founded in 2014.
