Do you mine for bitcoin? or do you know anyone who does?

Do you or the person you know consider the energy cost to mining for a single bitcoin?

Some estimates say the electricity usage is as much as a small European countries annually usage!

If this is true, what is your thoughts? Should we continue to mine or stop mining bitcoin right away and save our environment.

I would love to hear what people are thinking about this topic.

I hope the power consumption issue with Bitcoin will be solved. If it keeps on growing like it does it will continue to attract miners so the power consumption will rise too. Clearly not acceptable and at some point unsustainable. I assume that altcoins will gain more popularity if bitcoins carbon footprint will eat away at it's reputation. Maybe bitcoin can be improved upon in such a way that no additional miners are allowed as to put a cap on the power consumption.

That is all good points. Not to mentions the more people who mine bitcoin the more energy usage will be put on all the servers. But maybe we can allow more people to mine bitcoin as long as we find ways to minimize energy waisting and resourcing sucking industries? @bitsplitter
