The two Bitcoin-eater or Bitcoin-blocker Wallets to stay away from - Get a Ledger!

in bitcoin •  7 years ago

Retarded Wallet Number 1 - My Celium - The Bitcoin Eater

Amazing @creutzy got me my first ledger for Christmas so I decided to move some funds from wallets to the ledger.

I had 0,087 BTC on MyCelium so initially I decided to transfer all funds, which wasn't possible. It would only let me withdraw 0,066 BTC - which was completely unreasonable. After a few tries with @creutzy and by selecting a bit less to transfer instead [0,084 BTC] with economy fee [0,001 BTC - which is a lot anyway], the transaction was made...wanna know how much @meanmommy33 had left though...?

Yes, you guessed right... ZERO!

Because the transaction fee ended up being 0,003 BTC instead, which is completely INSANE !!!!!
Of course I'm going to file a complaint to MyCelium.

Retarded Wallet Number 2 - Jaxx - The Bitcoin Blocker

So....with Jaxx I didn't have the same issues. I managed to move some ETH [which takes a long time, but the transaction is made alright] and ETC -pretty fast and with normal fees. Until...I wanted to move my LTC. Yes, you guessed right again: It wouldn't go through!!! After a short research online with @creutzy (thanks babe for your -relative haha- patience! And for helping me set up my ledger!) we found out that a lot of people can't move their LTC from Jaxx...

Why...you might wonder...

Simply because the old school piece of shit Jaxx doesn't 'recognize' new 'M' addresses and you need to send funds to '3' addresses instead! [or Ls, but it's not recommended]. This is totally stupid, since my brand new ledger does not have the oldies 3... So, yeah, my money is blocked and I'll have to move it back to bittrex [where it came from in the first place] and from there to my ledger - 'cause I just feel like spending all my money in fees...

This is how I feel about my cryptos... [and @creutzy too...]

Awesome meme, perfect for the occasion, found on google images search on the web -I thought 'My precious' Golum was too common ;)

Conclusion

Don't use stupid wallets. If you can, get a ledger and work with that. No, don't keep your money on exchanges either - because they [incl. bittrex] might collapse any minute now, with everything that's happening [governments wanting to regulate the situation...] and then all of your funds will be 'confiscated' - hence, lost.

Did any of this happen to you? Please share so we know what to avoid -especially us newbies! And-besides all that though-as I always say...

Don't forget to smile!

Yours

Mean Mommy

I use wallet-faucet (ref!) https://freebitco.in/?r=3656763
They have 1 FREE BTC transaction per week, daily interests, lottery and many others...
But i,m use him as a free wallet ))

btc address can change in settings

Aha!!! Thanks for that, I will certainly look into it!!! :D

i use him about year and i think -it's safe)))

This topic should be constantly updated, @meanmommy33. Thanks for the informations.

Indeed... I'm not an expert or anything though to get deep into the subject, that's why I rarely write relevant posts. But this time...I've had it, I was like NO I have to say something!!! Thanks for reading @lighteye ! :)

Actually, you don't have to be an expert to describe your experience with several wallets, and I could argue that your experience is much more valuable exactly because you are NOT an expert, @meanmommy33. Experts tend to go into theory, which is not useful for the layman users.

Please, always write about your experiences with wallets. I remember how shocked I was when I've found out about a fee on Schildbach's wallet! Didn't know anything on that topic back then :)

I guess you have a point - a rookie's opinion is more 'real' than an expert one ;) I will -even though, to be honest, I hope I won't have any more problems!!! :D

I do use Ledger...trying to avoid everything you encountered. The whole space is having issues. ShapeShift has been having big problems with the increased volume. I had a simple Litecoin to Ripple exchange pending for hours today. Here's their latest warning.

Problem is I moved stuff to wallets to avoid exchange issues until my ledger got here... :( I should have just waited...I just panicked in fear of bittrex going down and losing everything...I know, ETH took up to a week recently [cryptokitties don't help the situation] - for that I have to wait indeed, but the transaction is there, just pending... Thank you for that - I feel that I'm not alone now! :)

Suxs about those wallets :(

I’ve had a pretty good success with breadwallet for btc.

Gotta get me a ledger too!!! Has any1 bought 1 from a canadian outlet and had success?

Buying international is almost double the dollars !

Hmmm yeah I can imagine -it's Canada so if it's from Europe it's like when we buy from overseas :(
Mine came from Paris and it's awesome though - check international fees, they might be the same actually!!!

And yes, it SOOOO sucks :( No more wallets, thanks :(((

Wait just to be clear... you could not move your litecoin from Jaxx to the ledger...?

However you COULD send it back to bittrex (as long as you had some ether on there to do the fees)?

Correct -I could't send LTC from Jaxx to the ledger BUT I haven't tried to send it back to bittrex yet -will do today...(hopefully)

Wise words. I recently bought some Bitcoin as I to have just got a ledger so moved all my funds to it. I used Bittylicious as there are hardly any exchanges for the UK cost me a fortune I pain £40 and only got £15 worth of Bitcion shocking. England need to catch up with the world!

Although I am using Wirex which appear fantastic so far just waiting for document to be approved then I will be using them from now on!

I'll check out Wirex -see what's this about. But yeah right?
See? Even the typo agrees!!!! (instead of 'paid' - I think that's what you wanted to write, right? You wrote 'pain' WHICH IT IS !!!!! -Don't edit it, PAIN is more correct :(((( )
Good luck to us - we'll get through this too... Thank you for the comment dear, I feel I'm not alone now ;)

Haha typo or Freudian slip! I've not used their exchange yet send of my documents so well see, everything else seems very well run though!
Me too though I was just picking all the wrong places!
Think I have a referral link for wirex will look it up!

Freudian slip probably haha!

https://app.wirexapp.com/join/Y9GAqiSTT061V71a1BnMKg not sure how it works but hey see what happens :)

Oh thanks, I'll take a look! And yes, sure - as long as they don't rob you! Pfffff :///

I been using them for about a year seems very professional and good customer service !

i have a wallet on blockchain, and i'm happy with it.

Care to tell us which one then? Because the 'big' ones seem to be kiiiiinda...well thieves.

you can have a wallet on the blockchain itself:
https://www.blockchain.com/
you click on the icon: 'get a free wallet'. and you take it from there.
i am not sure if it's cheaper or not, i don't know about that
but i believe it's safe

Not safer than a ledger for sure, but I'll do my research on that - thanks! ;)

Oh my that meme is SO AWESOME! I burst out laughing.
Ok...so this is the first I've ever heard of ledgers! Can you trade directly from ledgers without fees? What's the advantage of a ledger?

There are some tiny fees -a ledger is like a usb stick,a portable wallet, where you keep all your crypto and it's 100% yours -no exhanges no nothing! We'll talk more about that soon -I'd be happy to guide you!

I use coinbase as a wallet, are they thieves as well?

what a great metaphor, this makes perfect sense and what a brilliant idea. Yes I want guidance, thank you!
