False accounts with the name of Kim Dotcom are used on Twitter to cheat their followers

Kim Dotcom, the founder of Megaupload, is known as one of the most influential people in the ecosystem of digital developments. His Twitter account exceeds 700 thousand followers, and unfortunately some people try to take advantage of the popularity and weight of their statements in the social network, just to scam people requesting payments with digital currencies.

This has been reported by the news portal TorrentFreak, which details that Twitter is the platform mostly used by the programmer to get their messages to the public, which usually share more information on the progress of the projects being developed.

However, in the comment strings that are usually created around Dotcom messages, they usually include messages linked to fake accounts, which try to trick users into capturing payments with cryptocurrencies.

The social network has a weakness when it comes to grouping comments, so it often happens that after a comment made by Dotcom, other messages associated with similar accounts that do not belong to the programmer are shown below, which generally use the same name and image but share links to blogs and pages that seek to perpetuate scams.

In one of the most colorful messages that masks a scam, the following is read:

Last year has been very exciting. To thank you for your support, I am giving away 10,000 Ethereum! "

To register your address, send 5 - 10 ETH to the payment address and I will immediately send you 5 - 100 ETH to your account. If you send your message late, the ETH balances will be returned back to your account. "

Although these types of initiatives can easily be identified as scams, unfortunately, people who are not knowledgeable fall victim to these acts. In that case, the situation is designed to raise money by followers of the programmer, since the application is accompanied by false testimony in which the authenticity of the proposal indicating receiving more balances originally invested is guaranteed.

While this type of scam is not new, there have been situations through which Dotcom has gone through that are used and distorted to request support from their followers - such as the extradition of the programmer to the United States -, which seeks to touch the sensitivity of his followers who possibly do not hesitate to financially support any cause that can provide support.

Being aware of this situation, the real Kim Dotcom has stepped forward and has indicated to his followers some recommendations to avoid falling victims of scams that make use of his name.

In this regard, Dotcom wrote:

Unfortunately there are many fake accounts that operate on Twitter under the name of Kim Dotcom, which offer free rewards and balances in digital currencies. The only real account in the social network associated with me is the one with the blue code next to my name, meaning that it is duly verified. "
