Dr. Doom was invited?

in bitcoin •  6 years ago

I'm trying to figure this one out because it truly does not make sense. I mean, I know Nouriel is known in the crypto community, but the reasons why he's known matter. Unless I've just woken up from a coma, this guy has been shitting on crypto since day one. So... What gives?

Why invite him?

Seriously, Why? He insulted everyone, and the community gave him the podium and a loud mic to do so. And listen, before you tell me that echo chambers are bad, I know this, but there's something to be said about someone who is unwilling to look at facts.

Unless there's a benefit to be had from talking to walls. Over and over, when he's been explained how his claims regarding BTC being used exclusively for crime are false, and that the dollar is widely more guilty of said charge, and that his 50 dollar coffee is also a red herring, he keeps on harping on the same tiresome points.

So, who decided: You know what we need at the SALT conference? Roubini... What's the direct line for the purgatory? Who was the genius???

He went as far as calling everything a shitcoin, and took jabs where he could at some of the participants of the event, including Novogratz. They dared each other to wear T-shirts as a bet, price predicting of course, putting the other down, but that's not the point. Why did they invite Dr. Doom?

Trolling?

Is that it... That could be it, but wow... are we children? There's a picture going around of Litetoshi, Charlie Lee, having what seems to be an amicable moment with Dr. Doom. For that picture, at least, his normally stoned in frown seems to have dissipated, so maybe his Doomish ways are an act... maybe.

Everybody should have their opinion, but I'm wondering what the organizers thought about bringing such a negative guy over. For sure not everything in crypto-land is great, but there is clearly more value propositions than people just wanting to make money.

I consider Tone Vays to be the "negative" voice of crypto. This guy, is like inviting a cancerous tumor to a health spa.

Excellent review @meno and of course, when it comes to insults, it’s better not to invite such people!

Keeps your enemies closer is my thought! It is never a bad idea to have opposite perspectives in order to test and challenges our thoughts so I don’t mind it at all.
