Bitcoin, a virtual cryptocurrency is not legal in Bangladesh. In September 2014, the Bangladesh Bank issued a statement regarding the use of Bitcoin and warning that it is punishable by law. Bank officials said that anyone found guilty of dealing with Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency could be jailed for up to 12 years under current anti-money laundering laws, Th circular also said Bitcoin is not authorized by any regulatory authority and thereby its use may cause financial loss of the citizen.
Bangladesh Bank deputy governor, SK Sur Chowdhury, leading tech experts are on both sides. Some investors and businessmen have expressed their skepticism while some tech Mughals have acknowledged its impact. However, Bangladesh Bank, the regulatory central bank in our country is not so keen on granting the permission for cryptocurrency though young freelancers and investors are really keen to invest in the emerging cryptocurrency market. But Bangladesh Bank has an eagle eye on both sides of the cryptocurrencies and other countries policies regarding it. Considering the pros and cons of advantages and disadvantages of cryptocurrency Bangladesh Bank may gain express their actual and clear stance for the legality of such currencies in Bangladesh Economy. Till then freelancers and investors of Bangladesh have to wait.
