People can now run nodes for the BitTorrent network and share files. BitTorrent File System, also abbreviated as BTFS, is now part of the BitTorrent main network. The launch of BTFS added over three thousand new nodes to the BitTorrent Client. This was announced by the Tron Foundation on Tuesday.
BTFS nodes now support two major features. Firstly users can delete files and directories from their local nodes by using the command line. Secondly users can import a Tron network private key or generate a seed phrase. As a result the BTFS nodes will become secure. After that users can upload, transfer and download files.
The major advantage of the BitTorrent File System over a normal server are its decentralized features. When a storage server goes down or gets attacked by a DDOS files will still be accessible. This means that a BTFS server can guarantee a 100 percent up time for its files. Before the end of the year users who share storage space for the network will earn BTT tokens.
BTFS and BitTorrent in the coming months
In late 2019 the Tron Foundation will integrate the BTT token into the BitTorrent File System network. This token will be the incentive for people to share data and storage space. The Tron Foundation will also launch a set of tools to help developers creating decentralized apps for the BitTorrent ecosystem. They expect to integrate BTFS into the BitTorrent client in 2020.
Users will be able to use the BitTorrent client to reserve hard disk space for storage. The system automatically sends rewards to the integrated wallet. The network never stores data in one place, but splits it up in pieces and sends it all over the network. This guarantees that files are always accessible.
BitTorrent not a popular trade
In the third week of September the BitTorrent Foundation launched a video platform called BitTorrent Live. Earlier this summer they launched BitTorrent Speed, enabling higher download speeds for those who pay in BTT. These development were not enough to create demand for BTT. Therefore cryptocurrency exchange Binance, the launch partner of the BTT ecosystem, announced to remove the token from its exchange.
