Blockchain shooter Dissolution now live

A blockchain-powered first person shooter called Dissolution is now available in Early Access on Steam with full support of the Enjin blockchain. Garage Studios Inc just launched the main network for the game, which means that the free-to-play shooter is now live on the blockchain. The game studio announced their milestone Thursday night. In addition they will start a pre-sale for three 'one-off God-Tier skins' somewhere in November.

Technically Dissolution looks like it has lots of potential. For example the first person shooter is build on the Unreal engine. As a result it already has a graphical edge over many other blockchain games. The blockchain-powered weapons and gear are made possible through blockchain gaming service Enjin. On the Enjin marketplace gamers can buy weapons, items and protective armor. Earned weapons and gear can also be sold on this marketplace.

The game takes place in an universe where an artificial intelligence has taken over. While humanity is on the brink of extinction, armies have popped up to fight the robots. As a result players need to compete for resources and territory. The game supports PVP and PVE battles, and the rewards can have real-world value. Gamers can now play the blockchain shooter Dissolution in Early Access on Steam.

Three development stages

Garage Studios is looking at their game as a five year project. The development of their game consists out of three different stages. The first stage is the tactical shooter that's now in early access on Steam. Secondly the company wants to bring a team-based space ship combat game to the market in Q1 2020. And finally the objective is the development of an open world, massively multiplayer online game. In this final product players are driving the narrative and economy, which would make it kind of comparable with EVE Online.

With this third stage the studio hopes to allow players a great deal of freedom and personal choice with how they play the game. Gamers will be able to buy properties, vehicles, trade goods and so on.

Powered by Enjin

The blockchain features of Enjin are the power behind the economy in these games. It uses protocols like ERC721 and ERC1155 to tokenize in-game assets. As a result gamers can truly own digital in-game assets.

Enjin is a platform that's really dedicated to the games industry. Some items on the marketplace are functional in multiple games. For example, the first ever multiverse item on the Enjin platform is a ‘wooden sword’. This item works in an on Enjin-build version of Minecraft, in the dungeon crawler Forgotten Artifacts and Containment Corps. Nowadays there are dozens of items like this. Take an item called Stormwall for example, which has a function in more than 20 games.

Not everything on blockchain

Because not every gamer is familiar with blockchain technology, Garage Studios has decided to make their game both centralized and decentralized. Players who don't connect their Ethereum wallets to the game, will have their information stored on the studio's centralized servers. Those who are comfortable with blockchain technology, can have their own in-game assets stored in their personal wallets. As a result Dissolution supports both regular gamers and blockchain gamers, but it also allows regular gamers to move their items onto the blockchain.

Getting a crypto wallet

Gamers who aren't familiar with cryptocurrencies can get started by switching browsers. Forget about Google Chrome or Safari and start using Brave or Opera. These browsers both have integrated cryptocurrency wallets for Ethereum and other projects. This is one of the easiest ways for people to learn about cryptocurrency wallets.
