Capcom and Cartoon Network dive into digital collectibles

Blockchain company ECOMI has made licensing deals with companies like Warner Bros, Capcom, CBS and Cartoon Network to launch digital collectibles based on franchises like Star Trek, Adventure Time, DC Comics and Street Fighter. Which characters will be part of the deal, has not yet been announced.

ECOMI has created a waiting list, so sign up if you want to be among the first to buy these digital collectibles from Capcom, CBS, Tokidoki, Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. The blockchain company sees digital collectibles as a major new revenue stream for intellectual property owners.

"Digital streaming, gaming, and in-app purchasing have become a multibillion-dollar market and the next to join this digital trend is the pop culture and collectibles industry."

ECOMI - press release

Ecomi Collect

Ecomi already has a wallet to store all these digital collectibles. It's called Ecomi Collect. Users can browse, trade or purchase collectibles through the app, using the in-house currency OMI. So far this token is only available to trade on Bitforex. Ecomi Collect will also have social features, for example allowing users to take selfies with their own digital collectibles. The app will use augmented reality for both 2D and 3D collectibles.

In addition the company is building its own ecosystem and trading platform. They also have their own hardware wallet for ethereum, bitcoin and litecoin, among hundreds of other tokens and currencies.

Open platform, open trading

All collectible tokens from Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and The Powerpuff Girls should be compatible with Ethereum marketplaces like Opensea. However, users will need the Ecomi app to for example use the interactive possibilities of these assets.

This makes this initiative for mainstream digital collectibles very different from the approach Panini is taking. Collectible card company Panini launched its own private blockchain, but nobody has any idea about the technical functionality. However, this didn't scare investors eager to buy the first digital cards on the platform.
