Chainmonsters moving to Kickstarter

German game studio B-Side Games is moving to crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to attract funding and additional marketing for its upcoming online role playing game Chainmonsters. The studio announced the crowdfunding efforts for the blockchain-powered and Pokémon-inspired RPG on Tuesday. The game will potentially release on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Android, iOS and Steam.

Max Weber explained that his move to launch on Kickstarter also has marketing reasons. It has 'a bigger effect on traffic and visibility'. This would not make Chainmonsters unique, as other blockchain game studios have used Kickstarter as well. Games like Hash Rush, Ether Legends, and Splinterlands Untamed have all used Kickstarter to acquire additional funding.

Backers of the game will gain an exclusive benefit when the game goes live. However, it's not yet clear what this benefit is. During the earlier pre-sale B-Side Games gave early backers in-game money and a permanent XP-boost. This Kickstarter campaign replaces an earlier effort to attract extra funding through crypto payments.

The Kickstarter replaces the old founding system completely as there were only a handful of people last year who participated - I am getting in touch with everyone to either replace the founder package with the Kickstarter equivalent or offer a refund.

What is Chainmonsters?

Chainmonsters is a massively multiplayer RPG inspired by Pokemon. In addition to a streamlined story campaign the game features daily, weekly and monthly challenges for solo players or players working together. For example, the game will feature public raids.

The game world runs on dedicated game servers that allow thousands of players to battle, explore and interact together in one huge open world. When the game launches it will be cross-platform on both PC and mobile devices, perhaps even compatible with consoles.

In case you missed it: Chainmonsters is one of the games that made it to our anticipated blockchain games for 2020 list.
