Gamers who spend a lot of time in the virtual reality of the arena combat game Swords of Gargantua might soon actually hold their own a digital sword. Game companies Double Jump Tokyo and Yomuneco announced that the two companies will work together. As a first step the VR game will get a special quest where players can earn virtual reality items.
Double Jump Tokyo are the creators of the blockchain game My Crypto Heroes. Therefore they are already quite experienced in the usage of smart contracts. The developers made My Crypto Heroes on the Ethereum blockchain. As a result they use a ERC-721 smart contract to establish ownership over a virtual item.
Thanks to blockchain technology it's impossible to duplicate digital data. As a result certain items can be hard to find, and therefore they have a certain value. Players actually own these items. In addition they can remove them from the game by placing them in their cryptocurrency wallets or on a marketplace.

The blockchain game developers at Double Jump Tokyo are excited about the collaboration. They see parallels with Ernest Cline's recently filmed book Ready Player One. For example, in this story people spend a lot of time in a virtual world. In addition they attach lots of value to the virtual reality items they earn. "We would like to contribute to the realization of such a world", CEO Hironobu Ueno said in the press release.
