Has anyone else noticed how difficult it is to invest money in Steem?
I thought it would be so easy. Here's my brain:
Let's start with Bitcoin...
I got myself a wallet. Yippee!
Ah, I see the block chain is likely to take three days to download.
Ok. I can wait. In the meantime I need to buy some bitcoins.
I know. I'll use my paypal money.
Oh dear. Paypal to crypto currency is almost impossible.
I know... perhaps a wallet/exchange to begin with.
Coinbase want a passport photo with me in it taken via my webcam. No problem. I'll put some clothes on and wash the chocolate off my face.
Say cheese!
Oh dear. It doesn't work. Perhaps the 'help' section will have an answer.
They do have an answer. There is nothing they can do. Perhaps it's my browser.
Ok, no problems. I'll try CEX.IO
Verification...ok. They'll accept an upload of a passport.
And they need a utility bill. Upload that.
And they require a photo of me holding the passport.
AND none of the uploads can be scans. They must all be photos.
Oh dear. Start again.
Or give up....which is what I have done for today.
Does anyone have any tips on how to buy steem? I cannot be doing this the most efficient way...
It's not simple, but you gonna find a way, somehow. Keep trying.

I use cex.io )
After you accomplish verification ( and wait two more days! ) it starts to work ok, also commission for credit cards seem to be rather high

Verification is the tricky bit it seems. I'm thinking along the lines of some sort of trusted people's exchange. If you have paypal credit and someone wants it, they could transfer Steem. It could be done publicly and in small amounts so everyone would know if someone were dishonest.

In russian segment is popular trading via telegram messenger bot. Trading bot provides escrow service as well. But it mostly Rubles/BTC, just a few people are trading Rubles/Steem. I didn't try it myself yet though.

That's interesting. Do you know where I could find out more about this? I'm looking to flesh out some sort of escrow service in a future post, based on old commerce. These problems aren't new. We just need to adapt old solutions. Also following you.

You can try this guide.

[Edit] I just realized you said you already tried coinbase.. You should probably try their support. What you actually need help with is buying bitcoin. Once you have that, buying SP is relatively easy. Unfortunately right now, being able to buy BTC first is a prerequisite for buying SP.

Yep. bitcoin is the issue. Sadly coinbase told me they couldn't help any further once their Webcam software failed to work. Bit flummoxed by that...

Hopefully someone will have a better suggestion, but I would probably just try googling "how to buy bitcoins"

Well that was my first effort. Personally I reckon those who own google and youtube are probably good friends with those who own the financial organisations who profit from us NOT having something like Bitcoin...

On CEX.IO, it all depends on how much you want to deposit, cause if the amount is up to $2,000 monthly, the verification is not that complicated. I started with the basic account (check out limits here: https://cex.io/limits-commissions) and, after successful test transaction, verified the account, linked the card and forgot about any issues. And their support is very responsive, that's my experience.
Verification is something you'll face everywhere. I like CEX.IO, because you need to make it one time, link a card one time, and it all goes smoothly later on.
Coinbase closed my account without any explanation. I do not trust them anymore.

Thanks. Perhaps that's another option. If you're interested I've been doing a series of posts about trying to overcome the obstacles to linking Paypal to Steem. Feel free to take a look. Here's the latest post:
