Investing for the bitcoin fork(s)

Here we go again. Another bitcoin fork is coming...or maybe two! Bitcoin gold is reportedly coming on october 25 and then segwit 2x thereafter.

So how do we invest for it? Many investors will tell you that the best way to predict the future is to look to the past. Many bitcoin pundits, including bitcoin "oracle" vinnay lingham, sold their positions before the last fork due to the dangers or rapid losses. As we all now know, the reverse happened-rapid appreciation of the coin in the lead-up as investors scrambled to get in so they could get both coins.

This time we have 2 potential upcoming forks and it is reasonable to suspect that we will see the same entry by investors eager to scoop up the fork coins without any additional investment.

In light of the above i will continue hodling my bitcoin in an offline wallet in a safe but inconvenient to access place and not be concerned about needing to access immediately to sell. It is difficult to think of why the lead-up to this/these forks would be any different. The concern in the last fork was essentially that there was too much concern about which chain might win and the damage to the main chain - the market's response was "so get both without additional cost" . There doesn't seem to be any logical reason why this time would be different.

This may result in a drop in value of some altcoins as money moves into bitcoin. But the infighting and the camps negative attacks on the other may push more people towards altcoins as time goes on.
