Well sort of. Bitcoin is splitting into two coins, Bitcoin Cash (BCC) and Bitcoin Core(BTC). Bitcoin Core will retain the name of Bitcoin and the BTC ticker, for now from what I understand. Now an exchange, ViaBTC, is allowing it's users to obtain Bitcoin Cash (BCC)by making a Bitcoin deposit and thereby freezing it on the ViaBTC Exchange platform. The original BTC deposit will be returned to the user on August 1st when the actual hardfork occurs. Seems worth maybe risking a small amount of Bitcoin, huh? Maybe not!
This seems to be a way for ViaBTC to cash in on the " forking" hype because anyone can export a backup of their current Bitcoin wallet and use it on a UAHF-compatible wallet on August 1st and obtain an equivalent amount of BCC on their own without freezing funds on ViaBTC. It is interesting to think of the huge risk this exchange is taking by selling a coin that doesn't exist yet!
Anyone mining Bitcoin in the mining pool will automatically switch to mining BCC on August 1st at 12:20 (UTC Time).

Basically the powers that be are forking it to get the bitcoin they want. Big blockers are focused on bringing Nakamoto’s roadmap to life and small blockers focus on creating something very new, yet quite similar to the current financial system.
The market will then determine at some future point which is best: peer-to-peer digital cash, or a payment network with an unusable blockchain for ordinary bitcoiners and with intermediary bitcoin banks. Let the competition begin!

Who will ultimately retain the 51% mining support?

They are not going to fork BTC on Aug. 1st because they already have with BCC, am I the only one that sees the fraud here? If you buy a digital apple from me and I replicate it before giving it to you have I given you anything that I do not have? No, I still have a digital apple, now you do too, but I also now got your money. I am not saying BCC is not giving away free money, I am saying BCC should get so inflated with extra BCC that the price should go way down after Aug. 1st from inflation and people selling off their free altcoins. Here is what an honest token looks like Uetoken.com

@pipertomcat are you converting alts back to bitcoin for this or just holding as you are? It's a little scary I don't know what to make of it, I'm glad you posted about it.
