It's no secret that the introduction of Segregated Witness into the Bitcoin network is primarily necessary for the deployment of payment solutions of the second level, primarily the Lightning Network. Therefore, did not have time to pass and a few hours after the activation of SegWit in litecoin, as the testing of Lightning payment channels began in the main network of this crypto currency.
Christian Decker, technical specialist at Blockstream, made the first complete secure payment on Lightning technology in the litecoin network.
Christian used the implementation of Blockstream Lightning to work on the litecoin network, and two hours after the activation of SegWit in litecoin, he opened a Lightning payment channel between customers in Zurich and San Francisco at a cost of 1.3 US cents.
Once the channel was configured, it transferred 0.00000001 LTC (1 lightness) in less than a second. A further test included another payment of Zurich-San Francisco, consisting of 1,000 litoshes, and then returning the original back to Zurich: as soon as the payment channel was opened, further transactions were made quickly and simply.
Blockstream's implementation of the Lightning protocol began in 2016 to include new applications and develop new use cases that could help in the future implementation of bitcoin and related technologies.
"After activating SegWit in the litecoin network, we were pleased to have the opportunity to test the Lightning protocol on a network similar to Bitcoin's network. The result obtained only strengthened the confidence that the implementation of our product is combined with fast and reliable payments of any size in the bitcoin world, "a representative of Blockstream said.
