To keep insurance costs down, I have my car insurance on the same plan as my parent's cars (saves me about $150 a year). When it came time to pay my insurance this year, I did it with Bitcoin!
Theres plenty of online services to Bpay with Bitcoin, but I'm focusing on CoinTree and Livingroom of Satoshi (both Australian services). I had some Bitcoin stored over on CoinTree, just for safekeeping and was going to transfer it directly from there to the Bpay account, but unfortunately their Bpay service was down.
Luckily for me, Livingroom of Satoshi exists. If you haven't used this service before, its incredibly easy and user friendly!
You just enter you Bpay or bank account details, then send the amount of Bitcoin necessary to the provided address, then you're done!
It's really that easy, and the entire process took me less than 10 minutes.
You also can claim rewards the more you spend through Livingroom, which is a really cool feature that I'll be taking advantage of in future ;)
Anyway, my dad specifically has known about Bitcoin and by extension Cryptocurrencies for awhile now, but only because I've been talking it up to him. I think this REAL WORLD application of a digital currency is exactly what the general population needs to see for mass adoption to take place.
All in all, dad is really impressed with me being able to pay for bills this way, and I am too!
I'll be introducing him and mum to the world of Cryptocurrency more and more, and will be blogging about it right here on Steemit! So follow me and stay tuned for updates!
ps.
Livingroom of Satoshi lets you see all the recent transactions they've processed, which I think is a really cool feature!
You can even see my transaction there ($290 to ANZ cards)
congratulations on your success on Cryptocurrency

Yeah totally good point, my dad is like "wtf" how do you make money from nothing, and to try and explain how would pain me so much I would rather not even attempt it.

I've never used Livingroom of Satoshi but looking forward to checking it out. My problem is I don't want to spend my STEEM :)
