I just received this Email from Coinbase. Seems like they changed their minds.
"In the case of bitcoin cash, we made clear to our customers that we did not feel we could safely support it on the day it was launched. For customers who wanted immediate access to their bitcoin cash, we advised them to withdraw their bitcoin from the Coinbase platform. However, there are several points we want to make clear for our customers:
Both bitcoin and bitcoin cash remain safely stored on Coinbase.
Customers with balances of bitcoin at the time of the fork now have an equal quantity of bitcoin cash stored by Coinbase.
We operate by the general principle that our customers should benefit to the greatest extent possible from hard forks or other unexpected events.
Over the last several days, we’ve examined all of the relevant issues and have decided to work on adding support for bitcoin cash for Coinbase custom
They won't be making the coins available till Jan 1st 2018 - it seems to me that their developers were struggling for some unknown reason to add the functionality to enable people to use and trade BCC, and that's the reason they wouldn't allow it in the first place. What a shambles.

That was a pretty quick reversal on their stance, I think they're doing the right thing.

The reason they did this after a couple of days to me it looks like they have waited for the price to start dropping like it did yesterday. We remember they said that they won't be supporting it but behind the curtain they were integrating it. Other have advised from before the fork that they will support it only that it will take some time to integrate the nodes.
