Lloyds Bank in the UK, one of the big 4 British banks has put a ban on sales of Bitcoin effective from Monday 5th February, because if is afraid that the currency is in freefall. Other banks in the Lloyds group - Bank of Scotland, Halifax and MBNA will be affected as well. Only sales by Credit Card are being affected. The reason for this is that the bank is afraid it will eventually have to foot the bill for unpaid credit should the value of Bitcoin continue to decline.

The UK Prime Minister Theresa May is also looking very carefully at Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies because of potential money laundering and because they have been used by criminals to circumvent UK law. The UK Treasury is also looking at regulations too.
