Following the release of our Bitwala messenger just earlier this month, we are excited to be officially launching our Bitwala wallet!
What is it?
You can now set up your own Bitwala wallet right from your Bitwala user account. Through seamless website integration, the Bitwala wallet allows users to pay and send bitcoins from within the Bitwala site. Rather than having a separate wallet outside of Bitwala, the Bitwala wallet makes it even easier for making payments, receiving funds and managing your financials.
You're in charge
The Bitwala wallet allows users to have full control over their money. Each user will be required to set up a separate password that is different from their account password for their wallet. No one can take or freeze your funds as you will be solely responsible for the safety of your own wallet.
One stop shop
The wallet allows you to have full access to all of your financial data where you can easily view your ATM transactions, debit card transactions and view the amount of bitcoins you have right on your user dashboard.
With this launch, you will have a full on Bitcoin banking experience as you will have the ability to manage your debit card spendings and your Bitcoins all in one place.
As with all our products and services, we apply high-security standards and compliance for our customers. The Bitwala wallet currently supports Bitcoin exclusively, with plans to include Ether, DASH and more cryptocurrencies on the list.
I see the Bitwala wallet as one of the most important pillars of our success. Usability is vital when handling expenses with bitcoins and with our wallet, we are a step closer to bringing Bitcoin into the mainstream. Spending, holding and sending Bitcoins and Fiat has never been easier. - Jörg von Minckwitz, CEO of Bitwala
How to Create a Wallet
To create and start using your Bitwala wallet, check out these 6 simple steps below:- Sign up at Bitwala. If you are a Bitwala user, simply Log In to start.
- Once you have a view of your dashboard, click on ‘Create a bitcoin wallet’
- Set up your Bitcoin wallet by choosing a password (Pro-tip: Choose a different password than the one used for your Bitwala account)
- Agree to our terms that you are solely responsible for the safety of your wallet
- Make sure to save your backup data. If you lose access to your wallet, we cannot provide you with your backup data.
- Voila! You can now start using your Bitwala wallet.
Could you provide more details on the security?

Another web-wallet? Right now more than ever I think it is clear that people shouldn't store their coins online and should instead acquire a hardware coin wallet like trezor or keepkey.

The way the Bitwala Bitcoin wallet is designed is actually pretty safe. When creating a wallet, you get an encrypted backup of your private keys which can be used to restore your wallet independently of Bitwala. We never store your password or your keys (and can't help you restore them, so make sure to keep your backup sheet safe!). That being said, please also use hardware wallets! We do support and encourage the use of Trezor on our site.
