What is Cryptocurrency?
Think of Cryptocurrency the same way you use your PayPal or debit card. It is a decentralized currency that is digital, only difference being is your debit card issued by the bank and cryptocurrency is issued by an algorithm(CryptocurrencyFacts,2017).
Buying into a cryptocurrency is unlike buying traditional stock, you are not buying a share of a company, you are buying a form of currency. Some of the popular cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Lite Coin (LTC) and Ripple (XRP) (all of which I have invested).
FYI, an alt coin (part of cryptocurrency) are coins other than Bitcoin. ETH, LTC, and Ripple (XRP), among others, fall into the alt coin category.
You can buy other Coins besides bitcoin.
I know that everywhere you look, you hear “Bitcoin this” and “Bitcoin that,” here’s a secret you should note; there are other alt coins to buy. They all differ in their economic model, distribution methods, and some even serve as data storages. It’s imperative to know that some of these coins aren’t that different from those before them. Often, they’ll insert some parameters here or, even, take some away dubbing them a newer coin. Research before purchase is extremely important, so do the homework prior to investing.
Some popular alt coins to consider are Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Ripple (XRP), Stella Lumen (XLM), and Cardona (AD) – just to name a few. Remember this, this list can change from day-to-day or, even, hourly. As of today, these are the alt coins that have received the most attention for and there are others which I track that fall under what’s considered ‘Penny Crypto” (coins that fall under $5).

How Do I know which coins to Buy?
Ask your, “What is this coin supposed to do?” “Why should I invest in this coin?” “Who will this coin benefit?”
Buy low and sell high.
Compare Volume against Value: try to stay away from coins that have a trillion-max supply; you want something that retains its value.
Where can I buy crypto?
Coinbase -is the more popular application to use (it is now in over 18 countries). It’s very limited in payment methods, now you can only link your bank account or credit/debit card. Also, there is a 1% + a $0.15 banking fee per transaction. Very popular among beginners, and not to be used for purchasing multiple coins daily due to its slow transaction time (sometimes upwards of 3 days). If you are looking to buy lots of alt coins, this is not the application for you; Bitecoin, Bitecoin Cash, Ethereum, and Litecoin are the only crypto that may be bought on this application. CAN be brought with USD currency.
ShapeShift– great for buying smaller alt coins, like dash, dogecoin, and others, (those “Penny Crypto” I referred to earlier). Account sign up is not necessary, they CAN’T be purchased via USD –all purchases are bought through Bitcoin exchange. That said, you must first buy bitecoin and then use its trade to buy other alt coins (It’s not as confusing as it sounds).
Gemini-High Security protocol, fully regulated and licensed by US bitcoin and Ether exchange. Identity verification, can take up to 2-3 weeks for your identity notification to be verified. Deposits and withdrawals are free. Only available in about 44 U.S. states, and certain countries. Limited cryptocurrency for trading- Bitcoin, and Ethereum. $0.25% fee per trade.
There are other exchanges if you want to know more and/or have questions about one you’re currently using or planning on to use, please insert the question below.
Where can I store my crypto?
With the emergence of cyber security threats, property adequate security is vital since cyber criminals are looking to capitalize on your vulnerabilities. Unfortunately, the crypto world is no different. A great and imperative “Rule of thumb” is to never leave your crypto on the exchange where you initially brought it. Here are some great wallets to store your investments.
Jaxx Wallet-easy to use, not fully functional with all coins. Great Interface for both beginners and veterans.
Exodus Wallet– highly secure, easy to use, and supports most coins. Also, it’s desktop adaptable, and you can customize your interface inside of the app. 24/7 support (This is important!!!!)
MyEtherWallet– easy to use, very high security but may become crippled should too many users access it all at once.
