That is right! BTC now has segwit running! This is a soft fork so old nodes can still work and confirm their transactions by checking its own blockchain but the new system implemented will improve space usage in the current block size.
Next step in BTC scaling from the perspective of some is lightning network. The next area of FUD to look out for in a few weeks will be the 2x battle, there is development in this area where we have a opt in option for those who want replay protection.
