Happy Birthday Bitcoin - what will the next 9 years bring ?steemCreated with Sketch.

On this day, the 9-year anniversary of the public unveiling of the peer-to-peer system of money known as Bitcoin, it has a market capitalization of just over $100 billion - greater than 90% of the companies in the S&P 500.

Much of the mainstream press would imply that it's new and unproven, but in fact has an uptime and security track record that would be the envy of Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Apple, NYSE, Experian, Amazon or the NSA for that matter.

Does it have risks? Absolutely. But what financial system doesn't?

I'm personally very interested to see where the next 9 years take us... not so much in the value of Bitcoin, but more importantly in the promise of the blockchain technology that was born out of it.
