So Bitcoin has experienced insane price increases in the last year. Anyone who bought Bitcoin a year ago has made more than ten times on their investment. That's pretty crazy when you consider most people are super happy when they get a 10% return on investment with stock portfolios.
Here's the problem with Bitcoin. It's huge. Massive, in fact. One coin costs nearly $6000. Of course, you could just buy 10% of a coin for $600...or 1% of a coin for $60...you get the picture. And that value will rise. Over the next few years, Bitcoin might even triple or quadruple in value again, which would be awesome, right? So your $60 purchase might be worth a few hundred bucks in a couple years. Nice spending money.
But Bitcoin is one of many, many coins. It's true, it is the "gold standard" - a great place for storing value. But there are many great coins that are much, much cheaper and have tons of room to grow. My personal favorite right now is Vertcoin. It has a rock-solid developer team, a positive and vibrant community, and a fantastic technology backing it up. What advantages does it have over Bitcoin? Let me count the ways...
First, it is much more decentralized than bitcoin. Anyone with a decent gaming PC can mine Vertcoin. This is because it is ASIC-resistant, meaning, it doesn't work well on expensive, specialized computers that are used exclusively for mining on huge farms costing millions of dollars to set up.
Second it's fast. Transactions happen so much more quickly than Bitcoin, it will blow your mind. In less than a minute or so, your transaction will be completed with Vertcoin. Compare this to the hours a transaction can take to be confirmed with Bitcoin.
Third, it's cheap. A Vertcoin goes for about $5 right now. It was going for $4 about a week ago after support for the Ledger hard wallet was added. And it was a bit more than just $1 the week before that. It is going up in value as people see that it can compete with coins like Litecoin, for example.
Fourth, there are tons of new features coming online from the developers. Stealth addresses. Atomic Swaps on the lightning network. The TOR wallet was just released. These are all awesome features that make this coin much more valuable than its current sale price.
It might look like FOMO right now if you look at the skyrocketing value of Vertcoin, but it has a long way to climb. For the price of one-tenth of a bitcoin, you could own about 100 Vertcoins. It's realistic to estimate that the value of one Vertcoin will approach Litecoin's value within a year or two at around $50-$60 USD. Now THAT's some serious gains.
*This is just my opinion and is in no way official trading advice. Never spend more than you can afford, and only spend what you can afford to lose!
Love VTC, so much potential. Many were caught off guard by the recent jump but for a few it was a long time coming

Yeah it's still jumping. Surely, it will hit some dips, but I believe the short-term trend for the next year approaches 50 USD. Long-term? Who knows? I'm pretty sure it will 10X within a year, which is pretty awesome.
