Bitcoin ABC: Bitmain indented?

in bitcoin •  7 years ago

Proposed at the beginning of the month at the conference The Future of Bitcoin to counter UASF BIP 148, "Bitcoin ABC" is a project of "hard fork" led by some minors. After the success of the BIP 91 and the report by all the protagonists of the BIP 141 (Segwit), it is now assumed that the BIP 148 will have no effect on August 1st. Consequently, one may question the relevance of the Bitcoin Cash project. In an article published this morning on his blog, the company Bitmain which controls Antpool, BTC.COM and ConnectBTC, tries to clarify its position.

"On July 22, 2017, the Chinese exchange ViaBTC offered the possibility of negotiating a possible new fork of Bitcoin called" Bitcoin Cash "or" BCC "[1]. This "fork" is based on the UAHF concept, an emergency plan proposed by Bitmain in April to protect the Bitcoin ecosystem against the potential threats of the "fork" BIP 148 (aka UASF). Because this is only an emergency plan, the UAHF will only be implemented if the UASF produces a "fork" and poses an imminent risk to the Bitcoin ecosystem. We have discussed these points in detail in this article.

"Bitcoin ABC" was proposed at the conference "Future of Bitcoin" in the Netherlands. Its development is now led by advocates of increasing the size of the blocks. Bitmain does not control their opinions.

Here are some details about Bitmain's current position:

  1. Bitmain and ViaBTC share only one investment relationship in which ViaBTC operates independently. The founder of ViaBTC has ten times more voting rights than those of ViaBTC's investors, therefore the position of ViaBTC does not represent the position of Bitmain.

  2. The New York Agreement is a joint effort of a global community. As a signatory, Bitmain has actively supported Segwit2x and will continue to run the btc1 software on its mining pools, namely Antpool, BTC.COM and ConnectBTC.

  3. We observe closely the evolution of "BCC" and we do not exclude the possibility of supporting both "Segwit2x" and "BCC". "
