1.  Spencer Bogart, a general partner at the venture capital firm Blockchain Capital, says he’s excited for 2020 to bring about a new “vertical era” that focuses on building on top of the Bitcoin and Ethereum protocols. 2.  The IOTA Foundation, the non-profit behind the IOTA blockchain network, has said that an issue related to its mainnet has been fixed. The network was reportedly unable to process transactions for 15+ hours yesterday. The foundation said a “corrupt” ledger state was caused by an edge case where the IOTA Reference Implementation (IRI) didn't account for a transaction that was shared between two distinct bundles. 3.  Bloomberg editor John Authers has estimated that Hindsight Capital LLC, his imaginary hedge fund, could have turned 100 grams of gold into approximately eight tons in one decade. The price of Bitcoin has increased by nearly nine million percent since the start of the decade. Hindsight, which models the performance of the most successful hedge fund ever, pocketed a whopping $23.3 mln after selling $100 worth of BTC it bought in 2010. 4.  Major United States brokerage TD Ameritrade doesn’t deny the potential inclusion of cryptocurrencies like XRP to its platform. One of the early adopters of the original Bitcoin (BTC) futures trading platform, TD Ameritrade apparently remains positive about more potential initiatives in crypto. 5.  Major cryptocurrency exchange Binance will suspend Ether (ETH) deposits and withdrawals to support the recently announced Ethereum network Muir Glacier upgrade. Binance said that deposits and withdrawals will be suspended on the platform prior to the Ethereum network block height of 9,200,000 selected to execute the upgrade. Hashrate, though, is often seen as the better market number to watch in order to truly evaluate Bitcoin adoption, and recent hashrate statistics indicate that adoption continues to grow. Hashrate functions as an indicator of adoption because of the cost of mining. 7.  The XRP liquidity index sets yet another all-time high on Bitso. After cooling down this month, the XRP liquidity index has recorded a new all-time high on the Mexican Bitso exchange on Dec. 30. According to the Liquidity Index Bot, the volume of the third biggest cryptocurrency against the Mexico peso reached 10,071,247 XRP. 8.  Peer-to-peer filesharing giant BitTorrent announced on Dec. 30 that DLive, the blockchain-based live streaming platform, will be joining its ecosystem. Through this partnership, DLive will bring peer-to-peer content sharing and live streaming capabilities to BitTorrent's 100 million monthly active users. 9.  Despite the harsh market conditions this year, high profile closures of a few ventures and a lot of employee downsizing, the number of companies operating in the blockchain and cryptocurrency fields in Israel actually grew by 32% in 2019. As of December 2019, 150 active blockchain and crypto companies are operating in Israel, an increase of 32% compared with only 113 companies at the end of 2018. 10.  A platform for accessing cryptocurrency data and insight, revealed that Saturdays proved to be the best days for Bitcoin in 2019 with Fridays being the worst. Bitcoin had a positive average performance in 4 out of 7 days over the last 12 months, with Saturdays being the best days for the cryptocurrency, posting returns of 1.02%. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays were also good days with average returns of 0.63%, 0.52%, and 0.42%, respectively.
