Discord has been gaining enormous popularity among the gaming community in recent years. One common issue faced by discord users is when the discord microphone stops working. This can frustrate players or annoy people attending a meetup on Discord. Playing games on Discord with your friends is fun and interesting, but it can be frustrating when you cannot hear what other gamers or users are saying when the game is going on. A common occurrence is that a user hears what other channel members are saying, but they cannot pick up on his microphone Audio. Different factors may be responsible for your Discord not working, and you may have to try a bunch of fixes before you discover the perfect solution that works well in your situation.

Steps to Fix ‘Discord Mic Not Working’

We have compiled a list of why your Discord microphone might not be working and steps that have helped other gamers or users resume communication with their teams.

Step 1:- Logging Out of Discord.
Logging in and out of Discord is a quick fix when you are having trouble with your discord mic, or your friends can't hear you correctly, which may be due to a glitch in the discord system. One important thing to note about this method is that it is only a temporary fix. If, after logging in and out of your Discord, you are still experiencing the same issue, then try step 2.

Step 2:-Changing the Automatic Input Sensitivity Settings.
Disabling the automatic input Sensitivity setting in the discord setting will not allow your Microphone to function correctly. If you have tried to change your voice settings before, you may have unmarked the “Automatically determine input Sensitivity” box.
Disabling the option will cause your discord app to stop picking sounds from your Microphone.
Here is a quick step to rectify this:-
• Click on the User settings, which you will find at the bottom left corner of the discord app.
• Click on Voice & Video
• Go to input sensitivity, enable the toggle, and check if the bar turns green when talking to the headset.
• Click on the toggle and position the manual slider in the middle. Talk to the headset, and if the manual bar pulsates, your discord mic is back working.

Step 3:- Running Discord as an Administrator.
If you tried step 2 and it was not successful, you can try and run Discord as an administrator; since Discord utilizes UDP to send data to your friends, your discord app may be denied the appropriate rights to send your voice across the internet.
• To do this. Right-click on the discord icon on the desktop page and select "Run as administrator."

Step 4:- Resetting Voice Settings
This step works mainly when the issue is encountered on the discord desktop app, and it has a high rate of success. It will also resume functionality if the problem started when you bought or replaced a new headset for your discord app.
Here is the process involved in resetting voice settings in Discord:
• Select the "User Settings" icon located in the bottom left corner of your discord windows.
• Select the "Voice & Video" which is under the App Settings.
• Select "Reset Voice Settings" then click Okay.
• Reconnect the headset, and you are good to go.

Step 5: Select your headset microphone under the input device.
If the problem persists after trying the voice resetting option, you can try finding out if Discord is using the Microphone connected to the discord app.
This kind of issue is common to gaming laptops and computers as Discord will have set their Input devices as default, thereby making the connected Microphone not visible.
Follow the following steps to correct this:
• Click the User Settings icon located at the bottom left corner of the discord window.
• Select "Voice and Video"
• From the drop-down menu under Input Device, Select the Microphone from your headset.
• Then, ensure to max out the "Input Volume slider" option.

Step 6: Changing the input mode to “Push to Talk"
If you have tried all the steps here and still experience the problem, you can try and change the input mode from "Voice activity" to "Push to Talk". The disadvantage of using this solution is that it requires you to press a button whenever you try to have a conversation with your team. It has been reported that this method worked for some users when their discord microphone was not working correctly.

Step 7: Changing the Privacy Setting.
Access was denied for applications from using microphones and other hardware components following an update by Microsoft. This has resulted from a change in the permission policy given to these applications. Your Microphone might not be working due to this update by Microsoft on the privacy setting.
To enable permissions for your Microphone:
• Click on the Windows key on the keyboard and search for "Privacy Settings"
• When the privacy settings are displayed, click on Microphone.
• On the right side of the screen, click on "Let apps access your Microphone"
• Then check if microphone permission for Discord is enabled; if not, enable it.
You can now restart your system and see if you can now use your Discord mic.

Step 8:- Disabling Exclusive Mode in Windows.
Some Windows applications’ configurations allow them to take exclusive control over the audio device driver. This causes problems and won't let your discord mic function correctly.
Here is a quick way to disable them:
• Press the' Windows’ button and search for ‘Control Panel’.
• Go to Control Panel and click on Hardware and Sound.
• Click on Sound. A pop-up window will appear; go to the Recording tab.
• Click on Microphone from your headset and select "Properties"
• Click on "Advanced", remove the selection under the boxes of Exclusive mode and click "Apply"
• Reboot your system and confirm if your Microphone is now functioning correctly on Discord.

Step 9: Disabling Advanced Voice Activity
The "Advanced Voice Activity” feature may have also been enabled on your Discord, which will cause your discord mic to function abnormally.
To rectify this, follow the steps below:
• Go to Discord User Settings.
• Then go to "Voice & Video"
• Ensure the feature "Advanced Voice Activity" is turned off.
• Reboot your Discord and check if the mic issue has been resolved.

Step 10:-Changing the Audio Jack.
If, after the step, the issue persists, you can try changing the audio jack connected to your computer. There is a possibility the audio jack being used is not detected by Discord.
If the audio jacks are attached to the front side of the computer, try and attach them to the back, and if they are attached to the backside of the computer, try attaching them to the front.
Then see if the issue persists.

Step 11: Update your audio driver
This may be the solution to your discord mic not working, but you will be facing other audio issues with other apps if the problem is coming from the audio drivers. Signs of outdated driver files include cracking voices: poor quality audio, and blue and black screen errors.
Each device has a specific driver for input audio devices one can update if your discord microphone is not functioning abnormally.
The steps involved in updating the Inter (R) audio display are listed below. This process can also be followed to update different drivers also.
• Search for Device Manager in the windows search option.
• Go to “Sound, Video and Game Controller”.
• Right-click and select Update Driver.
• Click on "Search Automatically for Drivers'' and you are good to go.

We hope this information has helped you solve the "discord mic not working" issue. All of the above procedures will undoubtedly resolve your problem. If it doesn't work, contact Discord, they will be happy to assist you further.
