Youtube mini-celebrity and serial scammer Trevon James has started the process of powering down his stake in Steem.
This comes in the heels of a massive wave of downvotes from prominent Steem whales, such as @berniesanders and @thejohalfiles.
Mr. James remained unapologetic after raking in millions in referrals for the now defunct Ponzi scheme BitConnect, and was in the process of expanding his presence on Steemit by, among other things, delegating Steem Power to the voting bot Minnow Booster.
His plans were thwarted, however, when conscientious members of the community decided to punish the unrepentant con artist by flagging each of his posts, all but rendering his presence on the Blockchain-based social network, virtually invisible.
It was the first whale fight I watched in real time (Mr. James actually has over $700,000 in Steem Power) and I must admit I very much enjoyed watching events unfold the way they did.
For a few days after BitConnect collapsed under its own weight, I watched in growing frustration as Mr. James continued to be rewarded with immense author rewards, despite being a known scammer who led hundreds of people to lose their life savings in a ponzi scheme.
There is something vile about Trevon James. Perhaps it's the way he talks to his audience on his Youtube channel.
It's a creepy combination between the condescending tone of voice reserved for children, and a vaguely rapey whisper that leaves viewers feeling oddly violated in an incestuous way.
His content offers nothing of value to the community. No content, or any particularly astute insight. He hops from dubious enterprise to dubious enterprise without a thread of shame and remorse, which is why I feel downvoting his posts en-mass was the way to go.
His opinion isn't being censored. After all, his content is still easily available. What changed, rather, is that the community no longer puts any credence in what he has to say.
He had the opportunity to adopt a long-term vision for his channel. Instead, he decided to exhaust his entire trust equity in a short-sighted and greedy money grab.
He made his bed, now he must lie in it. He'll be far too busy dealing with other things over the next few months to worry about Steemit anyway.
What, with a pending class action lawsuit against BitConnect, his upvote rewards will be the least of Mr. James' worries!
I don't understand Steem fully yet but I guess losing value in Steem Power is pretty bad. I wouldn't even mind Trevon so much if he weren't so ignorant of how things work. He actually thinks he is untouchable in this.

Things have always gone his way in the past, so he thinks he's above everyone else.
Interestingly enough, he's just powered up a massive amount of Steem, so it seems he hasn't given up on the platform after all.

Thank you deselby for making a transfer to me for an upvote of 1.12% on this post!
Half of your bid goes to @budgets which funds growth projects for Steem like our top 25 posts on Steem!
The other half helps holders of Steem power earn about 60% APR on a delegation to me!
