The BitMEX exchange said yesterday that it had reached a civil charges settlement with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
BitMEX said on its blog that it will pay a fine, which is $100 million, to settle the charges. By the way, $50 million will be sent to the CFTC and the other part to FinCEN.
The CFTC case says the BitMEX exchange offered borrowed and unlicensed crypto products to U.S. citizens, thereby violating federal law from 2014 to 2020.
