Summary of the Pangea software evolution since the last update
Many things changed since our last update! Here is a list (see below for more):
- We have decided to make our own mesh network.
- We are starting a brand new UI.
- We are building a framework to allow anyone to deploy any kind of entity in the blockchain (either a DBVN, an embassy, a consulate or whatever the user want).
- We have improved our documentation through a new whitepaper for Pangea, improved roadmap on Trello, community and development contributor guides, and more. Additionally, many new talents have joined the team, we are ready to reach the moon!
- Not a Dev update, but: we are the Netexplo Grand Prix Award winner of the year! Previous winners of the NETEXPLO Award includes AirBnB,Twitter, Spotify, Waze amongst others.
Whitepaper and Pangea Arbitration Token (PAT)
Since a few months we have been working on our Whitepaper to outline our vision and technology for the Pangea software, and the Pangea Arbitration Token (PAT), an ERC20 compatible token that will power arbitration on Pangea
We are going to launch our ICO by selling PAT. The ICO will use a continuous sale model developed in cooperation with reputable third party auditors, which will last for two years (the first month will be much more advantageous, see the whitepaper for detailed information).
UI/UX
We have decided to start a brand new mobile oriented UI (desktop will be available thanks to our responsive interface) for Pangea so you can enjoy the best of it with a beautiful interface! For a teaser, have a look at these wireframes:
Entity Framework
We are developing a framework based on parts of Aragon’s work to allow anyone to deploy its preferred entity on-chain in our opt-in / opt-out jurisdiction. This framework is going to be included in Pangea so you won’t need to use obscure commands!
And the best of it: it is a modulable and upgradeable framework! It means that if a security vulnerability would happen (even if we audit it via a third party and employ bug and security bounties program) everyone is able to upgrade its entity in order to patch the vulnerability.
Mesh network
We have decided to switch from SSB to a new mesh network. Please let us introduce Panthalassa: the world’s first quantum safe mesh network (yes, you read that right). It is using the IPFS technology as a decentralized ledger (which we are going to fork in order to change its cryptographic functions for quantum safe ones). Panthalassa uses the SSB philosophy of "gossiping" data between users.
Ok, I guess you want a preview so here it is (disclaimer: this is only a preview, things may and will change):
In the future, we are even planning to develop what we are calling a "physical mesh network" which means you could use a nano computer to deploy the mesh network all around the world with a range of a few kilometers for one box, kind of like like wifi on steroids.
Documentation efforts
One of the main reproach addressed to BITNATION was our lack of documentation, now we have worked hard to fix that! You should look at our contributor guide with a comprehensible overview of relevant documentation.
Plans for the future
Here is a small list of our expectations for the future of the project:
- We are planning to release a new version of Pangea using Panthalassa, and a significantly better frontend.
- We are working on fine tuning the framework for our specific DBVN needs, including adding in different codes of laws, constitution functions, and more.
- The different services such as the Notary and ID system will be moved to Pangea, along with Citizens, Embassies and Nations.

BITNATION is the world's first Decentralized Borderless Voluntary Nation (DBVN). BITNATION started in July 2014 by Susanne Tarkowski Tempelhof. BITNATION hosted the world’s first blockchain marriage, birth certificate, refugee emergency ID, World Citizenship, DBVN Constitution and more. Its website, including the Public Notary proof-of-concept, is used by thousands of BITNATION Citizens and Embassies around the world. BITNATION is the winner of UNESCO’s Netexplo Award 2017.
Thanks for sharing the news. It is amazing knowing you are going to build over Aragon. Waiting for the ICO
