How To Withdrawal BitShares From Bittrex Account

I am going to follow @mindhunter's advice from his video about Tips & Tricks For Writing Ideas On Steemit. I wouldn't have remembered to write this post if I didn't write it down in a notebook like he suggested. Additionally, the idea came from his suggestion of writing posts from lessons you have learned because other people are probably wondering how to do the same thing.

Why I Transferred My BTS From Bittrex

I purchased some Peerplays during their ICO and through my research learned share-dropping has become a tradition for BitShares Holders. Peerplays share-dropped 5% of their coins in honor of this tradition to BitShares. I thought to myself "Free coins for using a DAC? I'm transferring my BTS to their network in case this ever happens again!".

Hmmm...How Does This Work?

When I read the BitShares Site in regard to the process of transferring coin, the web page instructed to simply input your account name. I thought to myself, "does this mean the memo field like Steemit or the actual account field?". I was a little hesitant and transferred a minimal amount to confirm.

The Process

  • On Bittrex open up your wallet and click the blue (-) tab.

  • Input your BitShares account name into the Registered Account Field and Quantity you wish to withdrawal. Click Withdrawal and don't forget to go to your registered email to confirm the withdrawal!

That's It! No Memo. Simply input your account name into the Registered Account field. Easy Peezy Lemon Squeezy. That is my account name in the Register Account field if you feel like throwing some BTS my way. Just saying!

Great bro! This is a life saver. Just made the switch. However after I make the switch is it actually in my wallet or on the exchange?

At the time I did that transfer I was using the online wallet and it was on the online wallet and the exchange at the same time. For the wallet you have to download, I cannot answer to that. I don't keep BTS on the BTS exchange anymore unless I am actively trading then it gets removed from the exchange. I don't recommend keeping your BTS or any other crypto on any exchange unless you are actively trading it.

So you think it's wise to download the wallet as well ?

Yes, if you would like to keep your shares off of the exchange. Keeping your coins on exchanges can have very bad consequences. I'm not saying Bitshares in particular but exchanges in general. Your account can get hacked easier on an exchange.

5 Bitshares for a transfer off Bittrex seems a bit steep compared to other coins don't you think?

That's what I thought. Imagine when BTS is worth a lot more.

Having some trouble getting my Bitshares into Bittrex...Shapeshifted from Litecoin to Bitshare, went through ok according to Shapeshift but never arrived into Bittrex..Shapeshift didn't ask for a memo so i added the memo into the Tag section...Any idea what i've done wrong ??????

Wracking my brain for two hours, then i found this. Using Bittrex was able to send BTS directly into my BitShares Client in a whole 5 seconds. Thanks so much!

What is memo and where can I find it?
