Panning for tokens: A story about crypto-prospecting

"There's shares in them wallets!"

On multiple occasions over the previous month, I've helped some associated friends (and friends of friends), whom originally got their hands on some BTS back in the Bitshares 1.0 days (before Graphene was released), migrate their stake into Bitshares 2.0 wallets. In some cases this is an arduous process, having to replay and rescan the old chain data, regenerate keys, and create new export files. Over that time, either collaborating with fluxer555 from bitsharestalk.org or going it solo, we've managed to recover over 100,000 BTS! This is great news all around, as we reunite early participants in the experiment with their hard earned stake on the current active chain, and earn a small percentage of the recovered funds for our time.

I started thinking about it like panning for gold. We're going to go in and attempt to rebuild the wallet back to the optimal state, and export it, but if you were a tinkerer with many BTS 1.0 wallets, it's easy to lose track of some shares here and there. Do you have any wallets that make you wonder? I even found 3 lifetime account names that were old delegate accounts that I had registered through this process. "delegate.robrigo" is no longer in limbo!

In one case, we had to brute force a wallet file password that had a few characters off. In another, we had to go back to the primary source to try a paper wallet key that was scribed illegibly. It's like a fun treasure hunt or riddle game!

If anyone out there is wondering about their potentially lost stake, well wonder no longer. Lets go salvage it! Please leave a comment below or reach out to me over Telegram or steemit.chat if you would like some help in reclaiming your stake. Give it a shot yourself first, though!

It's sure like the wild west out here. I love it.

Nice. Would be great feeling if you have recoverd Some amounts

It certainly is @rival. And it brings another person in the community that lost interest due to the stress of uncertainly regarding their money!

I agree.. i wish i was part of the 1.0 community.. just started recently.. did Some ico but my luck still has too come.. luckely only with money i could miss.. but happy i found steemit with my crypto adventure.

Great to see the good work that you are doing salvaging a whopping 100,000 BTS!
That is absolutely crazy and I'm glad that it was able to reunite early participants.
Keep up the amazing work!

Thank you for the kind words @arckrai!

bitcoin is the new gold

I wish i could find Some cryptos back in 2011.. but i Didnt buy it.. maybe try to find this pc on a dump in the us which had 5000 btc. 😭

Do you know where my kids left the remote control?

Good work. Do you mess with bitconnect?

I haven't messed with it at all.

Haha seems like you're having fun salvaging some BTS :P

Is it luck or wisdom, at least you will be happy !!

On this topic, I wonder about share drops that users are not aware of. I got some PeerPlays sharedropped by holding BTS on the snapshot date. I have heard of other alts sharedropping to BTC holders, but haven't looked into claiming them. I wonder if there is a list somewhere with all the various blockchain developments and the claiming processes involved?

Nice mate! Keep up the good work.

The crypto space is so much fun to explore!

Thank you for a wonderful post!

Well done. That's a great amount of BTS to recover.
I'm glad that you managed to find out how to "migrate" their tokens to another wallet.

Nicely done man!)

I view it like Gold. I am trying to accumulate Cryptos because they are the future.
