Welcome to the 81st Bitshares State of the Network (BSotN) report. A weekly report focusing on the changes in the ecosystem and track longer term changes in a effort to identify emerging trends and changes in the Bitshares platform.
Bitshares - State of the Network - 1st May 2018
The Bitshares State of the Network Reports seeks to combine raw data from a wide range of metrics and combine them into meaningful information to identify emerging trends and changes in the Bitshares network.
This week I would like to start by recognizing the hardworking teams who are translating these reports into other languages.
@blockchained has been translating these reports into Russian each week for over 1 year now starting at report #21 back in February 2017!
@fractalnode has been translating into Polish for the last 7 months!
@bangzi the newest addition to the team who has started last week translating these reports into Chinese.
Thank you all for your great efforts in getting these reports into the hands of many people around the world.
Observation from this week
This section will highlight any observations made while analysing the data.
This weekend, 5th-6th May 2018 the Global Graphene Blockchain Developers Conference will kick off in the Shanghai Himalayas Daguan Theatre in Shanghai, China. This milestone event will host over 35 speakers from a wide range of projects with Graphene as the common focus from all attendees. No doubt this will be a great networking event and if the China Dev con (Jan 2018) is anything to go by a huge success. Tickets to this event are VERY reasonably priced so if you are able to attend I think you will get great value from this event. Find more information HERE
This week Bitshares recorded a new 24h transaction record as reported by Blocktivity.info. Bitshares hit a record of 1,513,308 Transaction over a 24 hour period which works out to an average of 17.5 TPS. Bitshares currently holds the 2nd position for the largest amount of transactions in a 24 hour period, behind Steem which is holding the pole position with 2,068,341 TXs in 24 hours. With the rapid increase in trading platforms, wallets, trading/liquidity bots and this week a brand new game utilizing the Bitshares blockchain, Bitshares has the first place position in its sights. Either way it is great to see these Graphene based chain illustrating the power of DPOS.
The Bitshares based farming game Bits.Farm has launched this week and free SEED tokens have been distributed users who registered and activated their account as part of the free 'ICO' (no money exchange only registration of interest to receive a free allocation of SEED tokens.). BitFarm allows users to earn crypto currencies by playing a fun and addictive farming based simulation game! You can see the official website and download the game for Android or IOS HERE
Cybex are developing a Graphene compatible hardware wallet named 'Nebula'. The Nebula wallet is said to be the first hardware cold wallet backing EOS, CYB and BTS simultaneously, using the same signature algorithm and JSON transaction pattern as BTS. You can find more information HERE
The Bitspark team have released a detailed roadmap for 2018 with a primary focus on the Zephyr project. The roadmap has outlined that Bitspark intends to run the Bitspark Decentralised Exchange (DEX) gateway by end of Q2 2018 and contribute to the development of open source liquidity/trading bots in 2018 amongst many other milestones. You can see full details HERE
@abit has announced the release of Bitshares Core 2.0.180425. This update is a bug fix release to address a track-account bug that do not affect consensus and chain security. The upgrade may be of particular interest to businesses such as exchanges, payment processors, gateways or merchants who are running witness_node with track-account option enabled. You can see full information of the release and upgrade procedure HERE

Gonna have to get me some Bitshares. It seems that the overall sediment in the market is headed towards decentralized exchanges. BTS has a massive early movers advantage! Thanks for the update!

but also massive upcoming competition. i wonder what we can do for bitshares to grow? i hoped that the graphene developers conference will uncover some plans to join forces with eos but nothing was heard about bitshares so far. thus the price decline over the weekend i guess.

gateway nodes aka bridges are centralized. crypto bridge proposes to change that and open ledger submitted a proposal for decentralizing their own gateways but so far there is no implementation for that. atomic swaps would help in a way but i didn't see any updates on that as well. newer decentralized excahnges with centralized orderbook have the advantage of complex order types, like stop limit orders, and fast execution that enables bots that bring liquidity. bitshares doesn't even support stop loss order yet.
