Bitters--the lost healing art. Spencer Feldman explains bitter plants with Clive de Carle.

Actually, there are many "bitter" plants available today. The heirloom lettuce varieties, have not had the "bitterness bred out" of them, along with endive and arugula among many others. I really like to grow my own arugula. It's excellent and is easy to grow and collect seeds for the next crop. It is beneficial to eat bitters at the beginning of a meal to prepare the body for digestion.
