How to turn Steem into Cash with Bittrex, Coinbase and Shift Debit Card

in bittrex •  7 years ago  (edited)

With all of the new users on Steem I thought it would be appropriate to give an extensive overview of how to cash out Steem and Steem Backed Dollars (SBD) for Bitcoin and cash. You can sell your Steem on many exchanges but I choose BITTREX (BITcoin TRading EXchange) because I trust @bittrex-richie's security skills and his elite team!

Here is Richie's post about the History of Bittrex.

https://steemit.com/bittrex/@bittrex-richie/a-little-history-of-bittrex-com-how-it-all-started

First of all, sign up for a Bittrex account then get first level verified by adding your identity or phone number.

Now that you are logged in, click "wallets" at the top.

Type "steem" in the search box on the right.

2017-05-25 17_02_12-Bittrex.com - Wallets.png

Click the + sign next to Steem or Steem Backed Dollars (SBD), whichever you want to sell.

2017-05-25 17_02_42-Bittrex.com - Wallets.png

Generate a new address, which will be called your "memo." You will use this every time you send the Steem or SBD to Bittrex. It doesn't change.

2017-05-25 17_02_51-Bittrex.com - Wallets.png

Copy the memo!

2017-05-25 17_03_28-#tigercats - Discord.png

Back in your Steemit wallet, click the down arrow next to Steem or Steem Dollars and "Transfer."

2017-05-25 19_25_34-nOgAnOo (@noganoo) — Steemit.png

Put bittrex in the account name and paste your memo you just got from bittrex in the memo box. Make sure to spell BITTREX correctly or you will lose your money! if you use Poloniex exchange you should be even more careful.

2017-05-25 17_04_43-nOgAnOo (@noganoo) — Steemit.png

Confirm the transaction with your active or owner key.

2017-05-25 17_04_50-nOgAnOo (@noganoo) — Steemit.png

Now let me explain something about transaction fees. Steem has none. Bitcoin fees however are 0.001 on Bittrex which at the high price point today of 2800 dollars that would be $2.80 per transaction. If Bitcoin goes up another 10x you will just have lost 28 dollars just by making a transaction! Do not send your coins around a lot! Bitcoin transactions only costed pennies in the past, these fees are becoming a problem. You can send Litecoin to Coinbase much cheaper! The transactions are not much faster however. You still have to wait for "authorization" on Bittrex. @AppleCrisp today informed me that the transfer fees on Poloniex are smaller than Bittrex. But if you use smaller transaction fees you risk your coins getting stuck on the Bitcoin blockchain because miners are spamming the network trying to get more fees for themselves! Oh how I await the day where all blockchains are Graphene with free transfers. So if you have less than 50,000 satoshi's worth of steem you cannot even sell them on Bittrex. That is about 1 dollar at this time. This minimum trade started because of tradebot spam made by the Quatloo trader which I will teach you about later.. Then if the transaction fee to Coinbase is multiple dollars, it doesn't make sense to cash out Steem unless you have 20-40 dollars or more. But remember, the current value of Steem Dollars are actually 1.70 right now. So this is a basic explanation of the current system of cashing out! I hope you understood it!

Depending on how quick you want to cash out you may want to layer your orders higher to catch a peak and get more bitcoins for your Steem.

Successful sell. Let's send the Bitcoins to Coinbase so we can spend them with the Bitcoin Debit Card from Shiftpayments.com!

2017-05-25 17_21_23-(0.00069402) BTC-SBD SteemDollars.png

Click the minus symbol next to Bitcoin

2017-05-25 17_21_42-Bittrex.com - Wallets.png

Enter your Bitcoin address from Coinbase and the amount you want to withdraw. 0.001BTC transfer fee will be deducted from the amount. If you use 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) to secure your account you will be asked to enter it upon clicking Withdraw. If you do not use 2FA you will get an email you will need to confirm when you withdraw!

2017-05-25 17_21_47-Bittrex.com - Wallets.png

Click "Accounts" at the top on Coinbase to get your Bitcoin address.

2017-05-25 17_26_15-Bittrex.com - Wallets.png

Now confirm email and wait for the transaction to go through. :)

2017-05-25 17_26_34-Bittrex.com - Wallets.png

Sign into Coinbase and check your balance!

2017-05-25 17_45_58-Coinbase.png

You can now spend your Bitcoin directly on many sites, tie your CoinBase to your bank account and cash (takes 5 days to verify and 3 days for a transfer) out or get a Bitcoin debit card from Shiftpayments.com and use that for purchases or to get cash out of an ATM. I also have mine tied to Paypal so I can use it on ebay. It costs 10 dollars of Bitcoin for your Shift Debit Card.

Hey, thanks for the tutorial 😀
I've got nearly $7,000 in my Steemit account, my rep is a hair away from 65...
I keep powering up because I like my votes to give other people $$$...
Zero intent of cashing out at the moment, but when the times comes, I've got a SWEET step by step guide thanks to you!
Cheers for that, Steem on!!!
@scan0017 🙇

This post rocks harder than a chunk of granite in an EZ glider chair. Thank you so much for all of the detail!!

Hope the skates bring you no small amount of joy!

Harder than a chunk of granite in an EZ glider??????

Heh! You don't think that igneous rock in a rocking chair is totally rockin?

Wow, I can use this information!! Thanks!!

This is very helpful. I was about to make a post about it but since you have already made it, I'll just resteem this. Last night, I was teaching a new member on how to cash out from steemit and this post is very useful to conclude the conversation.

don't let that stop you...do it anyway..they more way's it's told the easier it is to understand..
this is an easy thing to do...but REALLY damn hard to explain.

You explained it very well.

Pretty cool instructions - I did this last week, less the shift card. Sold the BTC on coinbase and it deposits to one of my checking accounts.

HOW did you get it to DO that?
I don't need any more plastic.

When I wanted to buy bitcoin last summer I attached a checking account to my coinbase account, then bought bitcoin and it withdrew the applicable amount of cash.

When it came time to sell it did the same. I sold my bitcoin on coinbase and the proceeds got sent to my checking account.

sounds SO simple...until I sit down to try it.
(mind goes blank)

Haha....in Coinbase go to your settings and then click on Payment Methods and I believe you can add it there.

I've been fighting it all day...two or three days actually.
and tomorrow is another...maybe then.

If I wasn't so Crazy, I meme lazy, I would've done something like this for you. This what what I was talking about when I commented on your earlier post. Sorry I wasn't as clear and informative as THIS post. Definitely worth a Bookmark.

That's my next step too. Need money to build the house (thanks to steemit).

Nice! I might be able to build a dog house. Don't get quite the same level of love as your posts. My financial stuff bores people...LOL.

It only recently jumped up like that, but I know what you mean. Still, this is just the beginning, imagine where STEEM will go to one day... (perhaps)

Exactly, thats why I keep building my SP. Power up baby!!! Btw, assuming you already have a coinbase account, but if not https://www.coinbase.com/join/57bb94d84f92db03ca5f19b4 that sign up link will earn us both some btc. @everittdmickey, feel free to use as well! :-)

I got coinbase, just need to look into how to transfer to a bank account.

Ok cool. Believe you just go to "settings" and then click "Payment Methods" Good luck!

thanks for sharing

who is richie?

Great explanation step-by-step. Bittrex is also a great place to trade cheap shitcoins like penny stocks.

after I reread that about twenty times...
I might understand it.
I got the bittrex part...(done that)
and I have a coinbase account.
now I just need to find the coinbase wallet AND how to get the debit card.

It was a lot for me too... A LOT.
But now that it is done, I can spend up to $1000 USD off of my shift card per day, just that easy....

I'd settle for that much a month (help with the rent)

Right, that's just the limit. $200 at ATMs and $1000 total.

Very good I go and look :)

I had a chance to play with Bittrex this past week and am loving it ;)
Rsteemed
Thx

oooorrrr just send steem to poloniex, sell for btc, send BTC to Bitpay debit card BTC wallet ($10 One time charge to buy your bitpay debitcard bitpay.com ) ...I just got my card a few days ago after just a few days after ordering it!

There are many btc debit cards to choose from...New monaco ccard just raised alot of money....there is a card for every country now almost!

I believe my poloniex to bitpay fiat gateway is far easier!

You just send steem to your poloniex OR bittrexx (poloniex is eeasier and same price or cheaper than bittrex) or use shapeshift or Blocktrades it doesnt matter! just get a good rate for steem to BTC (poloniex is .1 to .2percent! POINT one to POINT two thats so small, anyway once u have BTC from steem u just send to bitpay OR coinbase account for theshiftcard but screw coinbase bitpay is way better!

Also
I am willing to buy steem for cash in san diego and online for non san diego peopke who can simply use a netspend card or whatever way they would like to send me cash or have me end them cash cheap, and i will take steem, convert it to BTC, sell that btc for cash sen them the cash, i will get it to where it will only be 10 percent fee to exchange steem to CASH without using any BTC middleman service [email protected] email me if interested im also just bought localaltcoins.co and i need someone tl help me make a localbitcoins clone but for all altcoin maybe just a place to put up ads locally wil be ok for now, just need a place people can sell their doge and steem and xrp and steller and litecoin for cash etc

@ackza Thank you for sharing this information , I was just setting here not knowing how to go about ths . . I already signed up with poloniex. than saw this one and thought ummm..

Thanks for sharing... Now, take a peek at my Page of Posts...
@pocketechange

Excellent collection of helpful steps.

easy to follow.

wonderful job.!

Thanks.

Explains a lot thanks. One problem I'm facing though is the severely invasive questions and documents they ask of you to 'prove' your identity. Are they any sites that actually respect people's privacy?

Upvoted and resteemed! I also use the Shift card and think everyone involved in crypto should have one. Also, really good to see that you're still on here producing great content!

thank you very much for this tutorial.
I followed it to the letter...I am now able to transfer SBD to bittrex, sell for bitcoins, transfer to Coinbase...I even have a USD account open there.

I failed to connect my debit card....took to long and to many tries with the security stuff...better luck tomorrow.

BUT...
it says that I can NOT load my debit card directly from BitCoin sales...
now what?

do I have to sell bit coins and load my USD wallet then transfer from that?

HOW Do I do dat?

@noganoo I was looking at 2 different options on how to cash out when I am ready and I think you win lol Thank you for the great information ,and the pictures to go along with this, It was very helpful , soon as I saw paypal , you won :))

Thank you for all of the screenshots. I just picked up a SHIFT card and it only makes sense to use STEEM in some of these transactions. Trying to wrap my head around this. So is your Coinbase account tied to Paypal or your SHIFT card?

Great job, thanks for the explanation
