Jiujitsu tips for top sidecontol

in bjj •  7 years ago

Some side control tips to control a scrambling person that comes with allot of explosive energy. I been using this side control in tournaments and I have been very successful. A few tips to help you. Works well in gi as well as in nogi.

  • Do not be lazy in side control, you can stay very heavy if you get up on your toes instead of your knees.

  • There is a natural handle underneath the armpit of your opponent, try to grab that from side control and you can maintain top position without use of two hands.

  • Think push downwards instead of away in top pressure, use the ground and press your opponent into ground.
Have fun with it, try it out let me know what you guys think.

P.S Sorry about my tight pants and the crack. I have acquired a small dad bod and my pants have become smaller.

Awesome tips about side control but in the end there was a lot of noise so it was a little hard to understand what you were saying. But keep posting so that jiujitsu newbies like me can learn kool stuff.

Definitely will keep posting. Thanks for the encouragement ..

You are welcome brother.

That shoulder pressure is nasty. It's always awful to be bottom side with that shoulder driving in. Thanks for sharing!

I'm glad to see more bjj people showing up and now sharing original content, including technique. I'm following and re-steeming!

Thank you guys. Yeah that pressure has been good to me but sucks when exposed.
The more the merrier that share and we must always continue to learn.

I follow you guys :-)

Pretty often I think I am a rolling pin trying to rotate another rolling pin. Active toes and sprint positions are imperative for good top pressure.

I have been having to point out the first bullet point to a few of the newer guys lately. A lot of them sit on their hips/legs when they pass guard and wonder why they lose control. Great post.

Thank you
