Tristate MMA/BJJ 10 Year Anniversary Spectacular

in bjj •  7 years ago  (edited)

On Tristate MMA/BJJ's 10 year Anniversary, Head Instructor, Harry Brofsky (Jiu Jitsu Black Belt), invited any and all to come and celebrate. Free food and various free Martial Arts classes were taught all day by many instructors.

It is not often that a Martial Arts Academy stays in business for 10 years, and this feat is no doubt not just a testament to the level of instruction but to great personality of the owner/operator Harry Brofsky. Harry Brofsky is an incredible man, father, martial artist, business owner and friend. It has been my honor to call this man my friend, and I could not be more proud of what he has accomplished in this 10 year anniversary.

10 Year Anniversary Class Schedule:

  • 10 am -11am- Ladies NoGI Jiu Jitsu with Multi Time NAGA Champion Lily Sky.
  • 11am-12am- Muay Thai with Pro Mixed Martial Artist and Muay Thai instructor Steve Willson.
  • 12am-1pm- Fat Guy Jiu Jitsu with Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Kevin Roginski (most fun seminar ever).

    The turn out was great!

Starting with the 10am Class, many women and young ladies turned out for Women's NoGi. Lily went on to show some of the great techniques that have helped her to win multiple NAGA and other grappling championships.

Next at 11am, Steve Wilson shows some ways to develop your Muay Thai skills.

By 12pm the house was packed for Kevin A Roginski of Gracie NEPA teaching you how to kick people out of his Barbecue, in my opinion this was the most fun seminar I ever attended. Here is a clip of that class.

At 1pm the crack of sticks colliding could be heard resounding throughout the academy as Sifu Ralph Mitchell was teaching Escrima. The academy became a dangerous place to walk around in with deadly Escrima sticks being wielded by beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

2pm rolled around and with it Marcio Bittencourt's beginners NoGI Jiu Jitsu class. Marcio showed a very basic but detailed Armbar on the near arm from side control and a basic Americana technique.

At 3pm the mats were filled with students rolling (Sparring) NoGi Jiu Jitsu, unfortunately I did not take any photos because I was on the mats myself.
3:30 Rolled around and I began my short Taekwondo (TKD) Seminar. I started at showing some traditional TKD positions and kicks, I then showed some trick and switch kicks that I have found success with in both TKD and MMA.[] Here is a video of the beginning of the seminar. Although everyone was already warmed up, TKD has a high risk of pulling muscles so we started off stretching.
4:30 was time for Kick Boxing Sparring:

All in all it was a great time and the event was a huge success. Congratulations to Harry Brofsky on 10 years and here is hoping for many more.
