YOU are going through the struggle I went through back in 2009!
Back then though, there were not a lot of tutorials on double splash photography!
Back then, you could not get a hold of a stop-shot setup (which automates things with electronics and solenoid valves :)
I actually got one of those setups recently, because I wanted to get back into the saddle so to speak (I stopped and only did this type of photography on and off a couple of times more).

If you like, I can also post a tutorial on this, and help you out so you can avoid all that frustration (believe me, I feel your pain as well as your feeling of success!).
The success ratio without automated gear is just soooo frustrating! hehehe (you have lucky days sometimes though.
