The world’s biggest girl group Blackpink delivers powerful bangers and ferocious rock anthems.
September 16, 2022- Blackpink released their second studio album, Born Pink. Blackpink’s new album, “Born Pink,” is a return to form for the group. After taking a break from the music scene, the girls are back and they sound better than ever.

Blackpink’s long-term producer Teddy Park is a divisive figure for some die-hard fans of the group. Some Blinks find his vision for the future of K-pop exhilarating or obvious, which blends Pharrell-style drum loops, travelogue string samples, and cascades of synth-pop together. He was responsible for four of the eight songs on Born Pink, including the lead single ‘Pink Venom,’ which utilized his old tricks. He composed ‘Hard to Love’ and ‘Ready for Love,’ the album’s final track and an EDM powerhouse, respectively. Is Electric Daisy Carnival’s 2011 wave far enough in the past to be nostalgic? With the fast metabolism of K-pop, it may be.

Every Blackpink member has been open about her mental health struggles, and this album is no exception. From anxiety to body image issues, each song deals with a different problem. While this album offers hope to those who might be dealing with similar concerns, it is the production that really makes it powerful. It is evident that much time and effort went into creating this record, which is why it sounds so good. Every track is composed perfectly, with catchy hooks and powerful beats. It is clear that a lot of time and effort went into creating this album.

It features some wonderful artists, including Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Cardi B. They all contribute unique aspects to their songs in addition to their presence. It is easy to see how amazing Blackpink’s vocals are throughout the album. They sound great as a group, and each member shines in her own right.

The album’s second single, “Shut Down,” makes unusually light use of waltz time. While the production is all sub-bass grime and razor-sharp rapping, that regal little string riff is a sample of composer Niccol Paganini’s “La Campanella.” Paganini lived with a wealthy Tuscan mistress while learning to play the guitar in the early 1800s, and Blackpink play on that precedent here: “A rock star, a pop star but rowdier… Many have tried to pray for my demise, baby / Catch me when you hear my Lamborghini.”

“The Happiest Girl in the World,” a ballad entirely in English about swallowing the pain, with the hook, “I can stop the tears if I want to,” is the only sour note on Born Pink. Blackpink can handle sad songs, but they’re at their best when they insist on fun as a right of every girl. Born Pink is the great pop album they were born to make.

For fans of Blackink, Born Pink is an essential listen. This album features a variety of both upbeat tracks and more emotive ones. There are 12 tracks in all, including the lead single “How You Like That?” In addition to that track, there are 10 other tracks. The group’s signature sound is present throughout the album. Fans will enjoy the group’s development since their last record. The members have developed as artists and their writing has evolved as well.
