Ever have one of those family members that is the lucky one. And by lucky I mean unlucky. In our family that would be my daughter. Well the other day was her third time being bitten by a black widow spider.
This would not fall under the third time is the charm but at least we have had experience and know the drill and what works for us. There are several items I keep in stock all the time. They are in my travel med kit for just this reason.
Plantain(plantago) is an amazing wild native plant here in Texas. Some would call it a weed. Stay tuned for a future post on it' s many benefits. I keep a plantain tincture in my kit that I made myself. You can purchase online or local health stores. Plantain is said to have anti-venom and anti-toxin attributes to it. Which comes in handy for black widow bites.
Epsom salt. I will put some in a bowl of water then soak for at least 15 minutes. This help draw out the toxins and with the pain that goes along with the spider bite.
After soaking we create a paste or poultice of the rest.
Activated Charcoal. This little black magic powder has saved me and my family on numerous occasions. I use it in the poultice with other ingredients to help draw out the toxins from things like stings and bites. We have food allergies/intolerances and when we have accidentally ingested we will take one capsule. It helps absorb the food and prevent it from bothering us. It is used in emergency rooms all the time. Some people even use it in their toothpaste as a teeth whitener.
Bentonite clay helps in the same with pulling out toxins.
Essential oils can help to ease the discomfort. Lavender essential oil can help with some of the pain and and Basil essential oil helps nullify the toxins.
There are other herbs that can help as well. Herbs that can help with immune building is a good start. Maybe make a tea with echinacea. Once you are done with it you can use the tea bag on the site as well.
I am not a medical professional and don't suggest doing anything without checking with your doctor first. I am only sharing what has worked for us.
