Blast From the Past - Part 9 - Kirbys Ghost Trap

When the super nintendo was released, so too were some really amazing games.
One of our favorite games was Kirby's Ghost Trap.

If you have never played it before, the aim of the game was to beat your opponent by matching more blocks. Each time you match blocks, the computer would drop dud blocks(so blocks that could not match with anything) and these blocks would take up your playing space.
You would always have a better chance of winning if you could chain matches together, so you match one colour of blocks which causes another group of colored blocks to match in the one turn. It was effectively like a multiplier for each chain reaction, and it would cause much more dud blocks to fall on your opponent.

Here is a video to gice you an idea of what the games about.

This game was so much fun to play against friends or family.
We spent many hours playing Kirby's Ghost Trap, and would stir each other up when we won or put the other player under lots of pressure when we dropped a bunch of dud blocks on them.

Now in the video above the first stage was real easy, and the computer wasn't to hard to beat but playing against family we all got really good at the game so the competition was much tougher.
Sometimes you would set up a really good set of chain reactions but before you could set them off your opponent would get a couple of chain reactions going and then you would have a bunch of dud blocks to deal with.

This game really differed from other multiplayer games, as it caused you to really think about what you were doing and was great for learning how to plan ahead by creating lengthy chain reactions. Most fighting games for instance was just a matter of pattern recognition by mashing key combinations.

Remembering great games like this really makes me want a super nintendo again. I have some really great memories of this game.
