Jesus and the faith of Peter: Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood. Matthew 16:17

The gospel of Saint Matthew, after recounting the second multiplication of the loaves and the teachings of Jesus about the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees, explains how Lord Jesus tested the faith of his disciple Simon, who after this event Jesus changed his name and called him Peter, which means rock, thus giving him a new spiritual identity as a leader of the new religion.
The gospel of Saint Matthew relates that Jesus was in Caesarea Philippi, in the region of Galilee, and there he asked the disciples what the people thought of who he was. The disciples answered him, but the answers did not satisfy Jesus and so he asked them what they thought about who he was.
It is important to highlight that the person of Jesus in the revelation of the gospels is the most prominent aspect of the Kingdom of God, the empire or dominion of God's perfections, because Jesus is the "son of man" that is, the personification of the perfections of God. Peter, through the action of grace, knew how to recognize the true identity of Jesus.
This is how the gospel of Matthew relates what Peter's profession of faith was like, recognizing Jesus as the savior Messiah:
"´But what about you?´ he asked. ´Who do you say I am?´
Simon Peter answered, ´You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.´
Jesus replied, ´Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.´ Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah." Matthew 16:15-20.
