Alexa Blind Control: Using Node-RED to Control Our Blackout Blinds and Lights

drag and drop palette in Node-RED makes Alexa voice control easy

Hello, in the previous post, we introduced the #Raspberry-Pi (abbreviated as #RPi or #Pi), a powerful little credit card size computer that has taken the world by storm.

This post will introduce more information about the drag 'n drop #Node-RED visual design system that is very easy to use.

It is built into the standard operating system of the Pi ( #Raspbian ), and you'll find it on the Programming menu in the GUI (Graphical User Interface).

It is quite capable of rapidly facilitating the design of a whole home automation system, but this series will focus on using it in a #home-theater setup, with #Alexa voice control. We will also be discussing at other AI voice control systems such as #Aigo (https://steemit.com/tech/@daxillix/new-aigo-agi-really-is-the-alexa-killer) and Google Assistant.

Like many folks, we wanted a big 12 ft screen, with an HD DLP projector (soon to be 4k), and a powerful multi channel surround sound system that would re-create the experience of going to a movie theater.

However, we did not want to dedicate our great room or living room for just this purpose, so we set up a system that was designed to retract the blackout #blinds and screen when we're finished, so that we get the room back.

Here is the second installment about how we did it:
