A few days ago, I observed the similarities between the pro-Palestinian protest today and the BLM protests of 2020.

Seems like a lot of the same players have ginned up these protests.

As I think about it further, I have come to realize that this movement of progressive identity politics has become a full-blown religion. If you watch videos of such protests, you see chants and ritualistic dancing. It answers important questions of meaning, identity, and purpose. It speaks with a certain that is often born out in a faith perspective. Did you see the video of the activist who accosted Baldwin in the restaurant? How is that any different than what some street preachers do?

In every important way, I can think, this movement is not simply a political movement, but it is also a religious movement.

I am quick to recognize when things take on religious properties and that is clearly the case here. That means that if it was not Palestine, there would be some other issue engendering this attempt to alter the norms of society. Understanding this type of religious zeal and its nature allows us a better understanding of the dynamics of the progressive identity politics movement.
