Instead of putting on their helmets with the names of the 9 criminals who last year resisted arrest and became the victims of unacceptable and outrageous police brutality, let's display the names of the hundreds of children who were accidentally shot in gang violence. Instead of trying to divide us by race and emotionally blackmailing the nation for an evil that was abolished 150 years ago, how about trying to unite us against a terrible evil that exists today which ensures evil tomorrow; fatherless children. Let's join arms and say that it is evil to try to shame black kids who take their education seriously. Let's emphasize and encourage redemption instead of fanning the flames of resentment.
“Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” will be performed live or played before “The Star-Spangled Banner” prior to each NFL game during Week 1 and the league is considering putting names of victims of police brutality on helmet decals or jersey patches, a person familiar with the discussions told The Associated Press.
I don't understand why people, when a discussion is started about how one of America's great institutions has become enslaved to political correctness, leap to attack the sport which is by far the most popular sport in the country for a myriad of quite legitimate and compelling reasons. The sport is not what is at issue here, but let's just go ahead and make clear that it is the most awesome game on the planet because it is the sport which best combines raw athleticism with honed skill, tremendous talent, and complex strategy in a team contest to conquer and defend territory and thus most imitates the art of warfare.
In each short play an infinite number of tiny synchronized movements collide with and elude each other in a way that produce a total that's far greater than their sum which often is zero. In no other sport is the grinding nature of superiority, the cunning nature of surprise, the folly of hubris, or the exhilaration of high risk, or the glory of transcendence so beautifully and horribly exhibited.
If you don't like the sport, fine. For purposes of discussion, pretend this ideological takeover is happening at the highest level of your favorite sport.
