Gambling the New Porn!

in blo •  5 years ago  (edited)

I remember going on the internet (term used loosely) back in the 80s on my commodore 64. At that point it was mostly just chat rooms on compuserve. If it wasn't for Aol, sad to admit, coming on the scene and allowing users very small glimpses of the emerging world wide web, I don't think I would have given the internet a second look for a long time afterward.

Those small glimpses provided something that I was lacking at that time. Blushing when I admit that something that was missing was porn. I bring that up not to make this essay able to be tagged # NSFW. I bring the subject of porn up to state the fact that one of the main drivers that drove the internet into mainstream and to a large part into the multi-billion dollar industry network it is today. A fact that many people are trying to snuff out or obscure due to being embarrassed or some sudo belief that it tarnishes the internet's history.
History if it teaches us nothing else it teaches it will repeat itself unless we learn from that history.
Weather we will repeat history or not isn't my overall concern with the topic of internet porn. How to use it to score or make profit is my topic of interest.

Porn hasn't had a large impact on the block chain, looking back at most emerging markets of the past porn has made a significant impact. While porn doesn't seem particularly suited for blockchain, there is one industry that is rising to internet porn status "CryptoGambling" To some that realize that porn and gambling fall in the same class of entertainment. This isn't as surprising as it may be to others. They have very similar drivers to one another. The obvious similarities: 1 they are both adult only oriented 2. They both share the larger category of vices. The similarity that makes blockbusters is this Vice category. Vices make huge amounts of money because People by nature will pursue their active Vices rain or shine, rich or poor, even to the extent the continued pursuit of that vice wilk cause then negative effects in their life or stated differently they become an. addiction. For this essay I use the term addiction to mean - continuing to actively pursue any vice with the fore knowledge that the pursuit will cause issues or problems in the person's life.bExample: a person continues to use drugs even though a stipulation of that probation is drug testing with positive result being cause for revoking and sending them to jail.
While drugs when used to the point of addiction, are destructive for the addict. For investors drugs have high risks but even higher profit potential. The profit potential unfortunate lies in the fact that vices are addictive. This addictive quality for the investor means repeat customers and a usually high mark up value... I know that drug dealing or investing in drugs are frowned upon as investments and even worse illegal ! I would never suggest that anyone should pursue that course. Drugs are an example of how vices are one of the most consistent investments. Remember that no substance is really bad or good it's just a non-feeling, non-living substance. The bad caused by drugs lies within the person using the substance. The majority of the evil that is committed on using substances lies in the lowering of inhibitions, that is to say the person does things they have thought of doing before but at that point are more bold to do it. With the stated definition of addiction: it allows any thing a person continues to actively pursue regardless of the consequences is an addiction. With this in mind, I ask is CyptoGambling the new porn. With its extreme upside profit and growth , as well as the downside of addiction and loss of personal property, along with the devastation caused in the life of an addict. I believe the answer is yes.
