Getting people to visit your blog is hard

Even you best followers may not visit your blog for months, they may just read your posts straight off from their home feed and continue on their way

So let me lay down a popular sceneraio, you finally heard that post engagement is the best way to grow your blog, then you hit your self in the head for being so stupid and not realising it all along

So you make a pledge to comment on X number of post everyday, especially the post of Whales, so you spend a bulk of your time everyday commenting on posts, but overtime you realise that your commenting brings little results

You have a growing resource of online tutorials and newsletters promising to teach you all the secrets of wooing the bigwigs, but you seldom read them and over time you find yourself in what I call " Information Overload"

Over time your frustration grows and you visit the trending pages and see posts making hundreds of dollars and you find yourself in despair, you know all the ropes but it is like you are invisible to everyone except the occasional spammer who leaves the infamous " Nice Post " comment

The reason i know this story well was because i was once like this

There are a lot of things that we fail to realize about personal branding, so today i will share some mistakes I have made and some that I have noticed people make and I was able to know that there were mistakes because these past few days I have learnt a lot of valuable lessons about building a brand online

Neglecting Your Blog

When I mean neglect, I don't mean that you need to drop a post everyday, there are different ways neglect can be manifested, constantly restemming the wrong posts can be a form of neglect, because your followers have a reason for following you and diverting from that will not be good

I unfollowed one company account on Twitter today because they were no longer bringing me the content i desired and they also kept retweeting things i had no interest in

When it also comes to posting you can lose followers overtime because you are not bringing people what they need from you. I review my Steemit following every month end and unfollow stale accounts or accounts that keep resteeming what I have no desire in

Arrogance

Arrogance in this context is when you know your posts are of high quality and feel that you have to be recognised for it

Arrogant bloggers are those who fail to respond to their readers comments or fail to thank their readers for their attention, they see their readers comments as a confirmation of their genius so they see no need to reply

There are a huge number of arrogant bloggers on Steemit who are complaning of how "unfair the system is" but see no need to interact with others

They complain that posts worse than theirs make huge bucks while their posts make cents. The truth is that less talented people will always get recognition when they have the right spirit, your readers should not be the one to promote you, that is 100% your responsibility

Great Headlines, Bad Posts

Now this is one of the most popular transgression, luring people with exciting headlines

You should realize that your headline is a promise to the reader that they are about to learn something amazing by clicking on it

But if an amazing headline leads them to a post that fails to deliver, you will be registered on the person brain as a deciever and the person will not click on future healines no matter how enticing it is

You have to write something worth reading no matter the number of your followers, and believe me when your content is amazing you will know

One way i know my content is epic is when I feel the healine would not highlight the quality of the post

Showcasing Your Wordiness

Everyone love words, they are our way of communicating to the world the contents of our hearts and heads

But to your readers, your words are merely gates to finding valuable information

And when you use words too big for them to understand there is a disconnect in the educative or informational process

You should know how to keep your sentences short and simple, also know when to use bullet points to make your post easily readable and understandable

At the end of the day your readers will leave your post with something

Writing Invaluable Content

Your can be the best commenter on Steemit but still earn next to nothing due to the fact that your posts lack value

Overtime on Steemit I realised that post engagement can only be complete if you post valuable content

Most times people who i have engaged with their content visit my blog and upvote most of my post, sometimes they even read my posts and leave a comment

They would have not done any of that if my posts were of low quality, they would have simply shook their head and left

What you should have in mind is that an upvote is not just a way to make money on posts, they are like badges of confirmation of how valuable your content is and someone would not waste them on Shit posts knowingly

An upvote is precious, you have to earn it

Blogging on Steemit is hard, attracting poeople to your blog is not enough, you have to keep them there, readers who leave unhappy will never return or become regular readers or follow you

Check the mistakes above and work on anyone you are guilty of, do it and see more engagement and followers, Steemit is a social media platform first and you need to be social to get rewards

So what are you waiting for?

You have some very fine points today.

I’ve drop people in a heart beat if they become Spam resteemers unless they are very good at what they share. I have a very small amount that do and they find me a lot of good things. Other than that, I don’t like spending my time trying weed thought all the spam just to find what someone’s been up to.

Hello @enjar

Thanks for reading, resteeming can have adverse effects if abused.

@ogochukwu

Very good points you mentioned..I also find it a pity when people do not reply my comments on their posts.

Hello @fathin-shihab

They maybe various reasons why people fail to respond, but i try my best to respond whenever possible.

@ogochukwu

:-

Great advice @ogochukwu! Participation is key, and I feel as bloggers it's our duty to provide great content and feedback to our followers. One thing that I'm working on is improving on my formatting and how I explain my content. Easing up on the words a little.

I want my followers to stay and grow, so I need to pay attention to make sure what I provide for them is good c:

Mahalo,
@shello

Hello @shello

That's very nice,it shows you are paying attention to readers psychology.

Thanks for reading.

@ogochukwu

Indeed. I thing the strongest of points you made here is that of the arrogant writers, who feel that the fact that they get comment on their work is due to their awesomeness.

Humans are creatures of habit, any overtine when such writers have formed the habit of not commenting, then the commentators will form the habit of neglecting.

Nice points bro. Thanks for the share.

Hello @gunneresq

I feel that those who fail to respond to comments don't have an innate understanding of what they posted about, they just copied content and posted.

When you know what you are talking about, you will reply comments.

@ogochukwu

Lol. It is not far fetched after all. The tendency is high that they dont. Thanks for the response. I appreciate.

Great headlines, bad posts = click bait. That and pop ads I don't know which one I hate the more.

Hello @greenrun

Both are annoying. And they are getting more creative with them as the day goes by.

@ogochukwu

You are right on that too. I must admit some can be entertaining, especially Youtube's own. Even when I'm pissed, I still find myself hooked on the very first 5 seconds. You can give it to them for getting your attention in that first five seconds. Not an easy thing to pull off especially that Canon camera ad on YouTube.

Getting social is the way to start I truly believe. And then learn from the successful ones, it's not a shame to take ideas from others.
Very informative post again man.

Hello @ progressivechef

Thats very true. Steemit is first a social media site. And learning from others shows humility.

@ogochukwu

This is utterly informative. Being new to the system I see it as a form of prompt. I've followed you to read more about blogging. Cheers!

Hello @ buterdaniel

Thanks for reading and the follow. I appreciate.

@ogochukwu

Excellent points. I wish I had known all these earlier than now.
