Have you ever wonder, how a blockchain database can improve voting solutions? It’s well known that bull market of the 2017 year caused an outbreak of blockchain applications and whole a lot of ideas that can change the world using the blockchain. Payment systems aren’t the only solution for using blockchain, but now mainly thanks to bitcoin are the most used.

There are specific problems related to the traditional voting systems that wait for solve. Governments are in a position of low trust rate for their decisions. People don’t feel like an equal part of democracy, influencing real actions in their countries. E-voting blockchain solutions can be a way of giving back societies power and belief in democracy and individual vote, that may matter.

List of voter fraud all over the world is extensive, and it can’t be omitted considering adding blockchain solutions to voting systems — the Heritage Foundation which deals with investigating proven events of frauding elections. As we can see on their website, the list of frauds is not small and still increasing: https://www.heritage.org/voterfraud.

Transparency of blockchain may be an enormous advantage comparing to voting nowadays. It can help to get back a voting attitude to the people, who lost faith in democracy and that their vote counts equally. Transparency is a trigger for better auditioning our elections, and it seems nearly impossible to faking them. Also, it’s possible to fight with fake images, fake news. It is determining if something is right or not. In today’s world of spreading that information is like a scourge, we have to find new ways to solve it.

There was a study that proved that nearly 100.000.000 people couldn’t get to the polls; they can’t vote and take part in democracy worldwide. E-voting blockchain at the current it’s not perfect and can’t be delivered everywhere but through the time it will change, and new solutions will be provided even in further areas of the world.

Another aspect of drag of traditional voting system is a long time of counting votes. It sometimes takes long hours and even days to count all votes, and sometimes results can be muddled up by human errors which naturally can occur. This sensitive tissue and aspect that we have to protect with carefulness can’t be left for social neglect. Strict controls of what is added to the polls and can be maintained during the blockchain voting preventing unauthorized data for being added. Costs of paper voting are also a crucial case, and it can be decreased significantly by passing this to the e-voting blockchain. Costs are significant bearing in mind hiring a certain amount of people, managing all elections. Including training and hiring. In the 2017 UK general election, £22 million (15%) of the £140 million election budget was spent on employee engagement and training.
Protection of voters also can be a crucial case. In Kenya, for example when incidents of violence during elections are high also costs for protecting elections in Kenya are substantial. In 2017 Kenyan government was forced to dedicate nearly US$ 53$ million dollars.

Americans doubt that votes can be counted properly: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/are-blockchains-the-answer-for-secure-elections-probably-not/ What can be the best answer for the mistrust of american citizens if not blockchain?

Time and money is a crucial argument for accepting blockchain voting around the world. I didn’t mention time for counting the votes which can be counted immediately using blockchain solutions.

In the opposite would be that the traditional voting system has nearly 200 years old, there so many structures placed and governments are not prepared to make a radical shift to the blockchain. Places on the world map where democracy don’t reach are also a tough case to make it change to full democratic approach.

Using new technology to vote is still uncommon even if authority makes it possible. In West Virginia, Voatz used their blockchain system as an option for overseas voters for ordinary citizens and military people who use their phones took part in democracy thanks to the blockchain.
During the 2018 primary election Two of the state’s 55 counties tried it , and only 13 people actually used it to vote, said Chief Executive Nimit Sawhney. In the midterm election, 24 counties offered it as an option.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine — a prestigious group of top researchers in the US — also said no to blockchain voting in a September report on voting technology.

After all voting have to transfer to the internet-connected devices, there’s no other way for future of democracy, question is if blockchain will be included in theses systems.
