Daimler is well known for Mercedes Benz. Now, the German automotive cooperation is thinking mobility new. According to statistics of the Institute for Mobility Research, a research facility of the BMW group, since the 1990ies both the number of young adults with a driver's license and the number of housholds which have at least one registered car are constantly decreasing. For younger generations it doesn't seem to be that important anymore to drive his or her own car. Especially in urban regions people tend to replace their car with public transport. The trend to environment friendly forms of transport might play a role, too. In general, mobility has diversified more. Some people use not just one car to get from A to B. It has become convenient to use several forms of public transport, car sharing, vehicles for the last mile (e-scooter, bicycles to rent) or a combination of it for one trip.

Dr. Harry Behrens, Head of Daimler Mobility AG Blockchain Factory, speaks of an ecosystem of mobility with many different market participants which serve the same customer base. The idea is to bundle all these different services. Ideally a car sharing service can offer additional service from an e-scooter provider. Instead of using many apps from different mobility service providers, distributed ledger technology allows to combine services from different market participants.

Blockchain technology makes it possible that financial transactions and accounting processes between market participants and their customers can be settled automatically, securely and without the need for revision.

One solution for such a blockchain based platform can be MoveX. The Daimler Mobility AG has teamed up with the open-sorce and high performance blockchain Ontology (ONT). And the result is MoveX. The first product on this platform is called "Welcome Home". In a recently released press-statement Ontology writes:

It solves the trade-off for users who want to have highly personalized experiences and diverse service integrations while also preserving their data privacy and control. The Welcome Home solution will not only be applicable to in-car experiences but to any smart device as they are becoming increasingly intelligent, connected and data-rich.

With "Welcome Home" Daimler Mobility seeks to bundle different services for customers. The idea is to attract many different market participants and combine their services. From the customer's viewpoint this can be very attractive. For example, when you want to rent a car you don't have to fill out the formular with all your personal data for every new rental. These data and your personal preferences are securely stored on the blockchain. If Daimler Mobility's plans with the MoveX platform on the Ontology blockchain will work out is not known. Now, Daimler has to persuade business partners to participate. At the moment, the partnership with Ontology serves foremost as a clever marketing concept.
