CDK Global, a software provider for car dealerships, was hit by a ransomware attack in June 2024.
The company allegedly paid $25 million in cryptocurrency to regain access to their systems, which crippled dealerships for weeks.
Law enforcement discourages such payments as they don't guarantee data restoration or prevent future attacks.
