I've now been following the cryptocurrency space for almost a year, and I have to say it's confusing as hell and guess what, we've been here before. Eight to ten years ago as everyone was jumping on the startup bandwagon and launching a new business or taking an old concept and re-inventing it for the mobile age, it was confusing. What did that new startup do? It's an app for what? I need to read all this info and skim the FAQ just to understand why I need this hot new payment processing app on my phone? Marketing budgets for these startups were limited, and developers ran many of these startups, so the creativity sometimes took a backseat.
That all changed as the explainer video exploded, every startup needed a video on their landing page to tell the customer what it was or how it worked. Perhaps one of the most famous explainer videos that I had the opportunity to work on was at Daily Planet ltd., for Groupon. As we created these videos, Groupon blew up, and the videos made a significant impact on people understanding how it all worked.
Back to what's happening on the internet now; these new ICOs are launching, and companies are taking advantage of the power of the blockchain to give us new services or in some cases just old ideas on the blockchain. This whole space is confusing, and as I said, I've been following it for some time. For people looking to invest in some of these new companies, you have to do a lot of research and you should, you're often spending money to get in early. To research, you have to read a lot of information, and that takes a ton of time; whitepapers, roadmaps, looking at the team's history and so on and so on. It's as if marketing got tossed out the window because everyone is dazzled by the idea of getting rich, quick.
Some blockchain companies are using videos to tell their story and explain what they are trying to achieve. These are often companies that have founders from the startup world or just people who have been through it before. Good marketing can go a long way towards getting someone to invest.
With the already confusing nature of the blockchain, atomic swaps, and lightning network, a simple sixty to ninety-second video is going to be invaluable. At the very least, a video is a useful asset for the news outlets, as they try to explain to a new audience how you use these tokens on the blockchain to rent cars from anywhere. A simple video is going to make this all go much smoother.
So please if you've got a new ICO coming out, think about an explainer video. I bet you might even be able to pay the video creator in your coin.
